On the 42nd Anniversary, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jember (Unmuh Jember) launched a General Hospital (RSU) located on Jalan R Wolter Monginsidi 91, Kranjingan Village, Sumbersari District, Saturday (11/03). The launching was attended by Prof. Haedar Nashir, the President of Muhammadiyah Central Board; Hendy Siswanto, the Regent of Jember; Dr. Hanafi MPd, Rector of Unmuh Jember, academicians, and invited guests.
RSU Unmuh Jember is the 101st of 121 hospitals owned by Muhammadiyah. The Rector of Unmuh Jember, Dr. Hanafi mentioned that the launching of the hospital coincided with the 42nd anniversary. Hanafi also hoped that Unmuh Jember could continuously develop and take a role in society. “We are also ready to synergize and collaborate with various parties, especially the Jember Government to develop local MSMEs,” he explained.
RSU Unmuh Jember with built-up area 17,547 m2 is on type C. The human resources in the hospital includes 93 people consisting of 63 medical personnel, 5 paramedics, and 25 non-medical personnel. The hospital is also equipped with 11 polyclinics consisting of specialists in internal diseases, pediatrics, surgery, obgyn, dental and oral specialists, ENT, blood, and general clinics. In addition, 3 polyclinics are under construction for eye, heart, and lung specialists.
Jember Regent, Hendy Siswanto also appreciated the establishment of UM Jember Hospital. Under the auspices of the blue campus, the UM Jember Hospital can certainly support health services that have been deemed insufficient. “Because our population is 2.6 million. The existence of this hospital is our joint endeavor and we are ready to support what is needed,” said the Regent. The number one person in Jember also expected that the inauguration of UM Jember Hospital could improve the economy in Jember Regency, both from labor absorption and local MSMEs.
Furthermore, Prof. Haedar Nashir also explained that the presence of Unmuh Jember Hospital is one of Muhammadiyah’s commitment to build the nation. He also advised that the management of the hospital can be well-established according to the spirit of Muhammadiyah. “RSU UM Jember also brings the value of Islam as a religion that secures the life of the nation,” he explained.
Celebrating the 22nd Regional Congress (Musywil) of Muhammadiyah Provincial Board of DKI Jakarta, the Communication and Business Faculty in Universitas Saintek Muhammadiyah (Fakombis Saintekmu) in collaboration with the Council for Library and Information Resource of the Muhammadiyah Provincial Board (PWM) DKI Jakarta held a Media and Business Discussion by raising the theme “To Win Information and Economic Competition in the Era of Society 5.0”.
The discussion, which invited Ismail Fahmi, the Founder of Drone Emprit and Ghufron Mustaqim, Co-Founder & CEO of Evermos, was opened by the Vice Chairman of PWM DKI Jakarta, Edy Sukardi, who is also the Chairman of the Daily Supervisory Board (BPH) of Saintekmu. Faiz Rafdhi, the Rector of Saintekmu who sparked the discussion, highlighted the development of the information industry and the low literacy of the community in responding to circulated information. “With the rapid development of the information technology industry, sometimes we find it difficult to choose which news is true, which is not true, because everything is mixed up. So what is needed is not only the technology that is getting smarter, but also the intelligence of the people,” said Faiz.
In line with Faiz, Ismail Fahmi, who is also a member of the Council for Library and Information of Muhammadiyah Central Board, described the development of the artificial intelligence era and how Muhammadiyah’s strategy to win the media competition. “We, in Muhammadiyah, have more than enough capital, only lacking two things, the mobilization and orchestration. It must be echoed and worked collectively by Muhammadiyah, especially the Council for Library and Information, from the Central to Branch levels, in collaboration with tens of thousands of services throughout Indonesia.”
Ghufron Mustaqim, the CEO of Evermos who is also Deputy Chairman of the Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (LPUMKM) Muhammadiyah Central Board asked Muslims in general, and students in particular to start from the mindset. To build a mindset to continuously provide the largest possible benefits to society and ummah. Therefore, the business is not just looking for profit, but also provides broad benefits. The discussion was hosted by M Raihan Febriansyah, the Dean of Faculty of Science and Technology who is also Secretary of the Council for Library and Information Resource of PWM DKI Jakarta.
In 2022, Universitas Muhammadiyah PROF. DR. HAMKA (Uhamka) was ranked 22nd best Islamic university in the world. Currently, Uhamka has been named as the 1st best Islamic university in Indonesia and the 9th in the world. It is certainly a great achievement as a private university belonging to the world’s largest Islamic organization, Muhammadiyah.
Responding to Uhamka’s achievements, Prof. Gunawan Suryoputro as the Rector of Uhamka expressed his deep gratitude for the extraordinary achievements of Uhamka. Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Bandung (Unisa Bandung), with a vision to “become an Islamic and leading university in science, technology, health, and arts (IPTEKS) at the international level in 2045,” has succeeded in demonstrating its superiority amidst community. It was illustrated by numerous international collaborations and Unisa has attracted a foreign institution to study spiritual learning at Unisa Bandung, as revealed by the Head of the Cooperation and International Affairs Office, Resi Roswulan, M.Ikom, on Tuesday (07/03).
Among foreign agencies expressing admiration in spiritual learning at Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Bandung, the Training Institute of the Ministry of Health Malaysia is one of them. A group of Malaysian academics conducted a comparative study at Unisa Bandung on Monday (07/03). In his remarks, the Director of the Training Institute of Ministry of Health Malaysia (ILKMM) Sungai Buloh, Mizhar Bin HJ. Maslam said that the visit to Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Bandung was to study spiritual learning at the university to be applied in Malaysia.
“Indeed, our visit to Bandung is to see the best practices here that we can imitate at our institution,” said Mizhar. On the other hand, Giri Meri, one of the teachers at the Training Institute of Ministry of Health Malaysia (ILKMM) Sungai Buloh, expressed her admiration for the spiritual teaching applied at Unisa Bandung during the discussion session.
The Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of ITS PKU Muh Surakarta collaborated with the Office for Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control, and Family Planning (DP3APKB) of Surakarta to create the DP3APKB profile book in Surakarta. The data presentation and submission of copyright certificates for the DP3APKB Surakarta profile book took place in A Building on Friday (03/03). Also attending on this occasion, among others the Rector, Vice Rector, Dean, and Head of ITS PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta.
In her opening remarks, Weni Hastuti, M. Kes., Ph.D., mentioned that ITS PKU Muh Surakarta always supports various activities related to health from the Surakarta Health Office, especially those related to stunting management. Furthermore, Dewi Marfuah, the Chairperson of LPPM, expressed her hope that there will be a follow-up to the results of the book to alleviate the women’s health, especially in toddlers. The Head of DP3AP2KB Surakarta, Purwanti, expressed her gratitude to ITS PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta for contributing to compiling the profile book, which has now been published. She added that the data can be utilized for research and community service by ITS PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta lecturers and researchers. “I hope ITS PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta will take an active role in improving the health of the people of Surakarta,” she said.
Besides stunting prevention, Purwanti stated that they expected to continue cooperation in other fields. She hoped ITS PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta would be involved in the success of the stunting prevention acceleration program. The target of Surakarta Government in 2024 is zero stunting, and to support this, ITS will be involved in a stunting prevention program in Surakarta by DP3AP2KB Surakarta because ITS PKU has professional human resources in the health sector.
Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (CHERD) held a Closing Ceremony for Muhammadiyah Scholarship Preparation Program (MSPP) Batch V on Thursday (9/3). A total of 50 MSPP scholarship awardees gathered at the Yogyakarta Training Center of Technical Education (BLPT). This ceremony marked the end of this three-month MSPP program held at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) and Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM).
Awardee Testimonials
For the first agenda, it started with presenting testimonials from each location, namely Try Hardyanthi, the awardee at UMM and Andi Muammar Kareba, the awardee at UMS. In her testimony, Try Hardyathi expressed her great appreciation to the leaders and staff for the opportunity given. “When we followed the program, to be honest, I felt overwhelmed. However, thanks to my friends for the support and the mentors for the motivation. I was motivated to finish it (MSPP program) until the end. This program not only provides English language proficiency skills, but also Muhammadiyah and many other soft skills,” she said.
Furthermore, echoing Try Hardyanthi’s sentiments, Andi Muammar Kareba appreciated this golden opportunity. He added that the closing ceremony marked the beginning of their respective struggles to pursue higher education. Andi also advised not to compare each other because there are different needs and dreams. “Let’s cherish the memories we had in the last three months. The best is yet to come,” he concluded.
Reports
The next agenda was a report from the Training Imam of each location. Phisca Aditya Rosyadi, Imam Training for MSPP UMS explained the awardees’ activities during the program. “The regular class lasted for five days. On Saturday, we do sharing. Throughout the weekend, each awardee is required to speak fully in English,” he explained. Regarding the strengthening of Islam and Muhammadiyah Studies, awardees are required to follow prayer in congregation every Fajr, Maghrib and Isha. There are also Tahsin classes twice a week and regular recitation of the Qur’an.
Phisca also said that of the 25 participants at UMS, two of them had received scholarships for further study abroad. Hopefully, the number would raise other awardees’ motivation. Rahmat Fauzi, Imam Training at UMM reported that participants need to prepare themselves for their next journey towards success.
In a report from the UMS Language and General Sciences Institute (LBIPU) by Dr. M. Thoyibi, M.S., there was an increase in the average IELTS score of awardees between before and after participating in the MSPP program. The initial IELTS score results were 88% participants received a score below 4.5. Meanwhile, after taking three months training, 62.5% participants scored above 6.5. “I think there will be an opportunity to be raised again. I invite you to stay focused on your goal,” he said.
Furthermore, the UMM Language Center (LC) was reported by Dr. Masduki, M.Pd. It has 176 meetings which were divided into 165 regular classes, 5 online classes on scholarships preparation, and 6 development classes. “Please to all participants who have taken the IELTS test and get a ranking, take the international IELTS test immediately. It needs to be followed up as soon as possible,” he mentioned a recommendation to the CHERD.
Remarks
The Chairperson of the Council for Cadre and Human Resources Development (MPKSDI), Bachtiar Dwi Kurniawan, S.Fil.I., MPA, expressed his gratitude to CHERD for organizing the MSPP in supporting the improvement of English language competence and strengthening the commitment to Muhammadiyah for the awardees. “I always support the collaboration between CHERD, MPKSDI, and LazisMu in the next MSPP,” he said. Furthermore, the Chairman of LazisMu, Ahmad Imam Mujadid Rais added that the improvement of English competence could be more optimal if the duration of the training was increased. He also advised not to make this closing ceremony the end of the plan, because the study plan needs to be realistic until completion.
Ahmad Muttaqin, M.Ag., M.A., Ph.D., the Secretary of CHERD, emphasized that this closing ceremony also meant an opening session for each awardee for their next journey. He also gave three “recipes” for every awardee who wants to study abroad. “First, don’t be afraid and try. Second, keep trying. And, third, try again,” he said. He also congratulated each awardee because their achievement during their training was also a highlight point that needs to be appreciated.
Moreover, the best student and the most diligent student from each program location have received awards from CHERD for the appreciation.
Muhammadiyah Central Board’s Mandate
To end the program, Muhammad Sayuti, M.Pd., M.Ed., Ph.D., the secretary of Muhammadiyah Central Board delivered his remarks. He said on behalf of the Muhammadiyah Central Board to appreciate the implementation of MSPP Batch V. He also mentioned the idea of Muhammadiyah internationalization through MSPP and portrayed Minhaj in the UK whose founders were Pakistanis. “Fostering is a historical necessity. MSPP is part of the Muhammadiyah internationalization movement by preparing the youth to achieve higher education overseas,” he said.
Muhammad Sayuti also advised that Muhammadiyah values and the spirit of Muhammadiyah must still be empowered abroad. He also mentioned Muhammadiyah Special Branch (PCIM), such as PCIM United States, PCIM Australia, PCIM Japan, and many others that have become legal organizations. “It means that the spread of the ideas of progressive Islam and moderate Islam must be continued,” he said. At the end of the remarks, Muhammad Sayuti led to recite hamdalah and officially closed the Closing Ceremony of MSPP Batch V.
The Midwifery Undergraduate Program from Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (Unisa) Bandung has received an award from the Mayor of Bandung for its active participation in programs implemented by the AIDS Management Commission (KPA). One such program was the Prevention of HIV Transmission from Mother to Child (PPIA) seminar held at the Graha Binangkit TP-PKK Building in Bandung on Saturday (04/03). Ami Kamila, S.ST., M.Kes, a lecturer in the Midwifery Program Unisa Bandung, revealed the news when she was contacted on Monday (06/03).
Annisa Ridlayanti, S.Keb.Bd., M.Keb, the Head of the Midwifery program, explained that the award was not only for their active involvement in KPA Bandung City programs but also because the Unisa Bandung Midwifery program consistently integrated the Health Study Program’s curriculum with PPIA programs.
Echoing Annisa’s sentiments, Ami expressed her hopes that the Midwifery undergraduate study program would continue to integrate the PPIA programs into its learning curriculum. “We hope that the Midwifery Study Program will be more active and consistent in implementing the integrated PPIA programs into the learning curriculum and can support and play an active role in every program and activity organized by KPA, especially in Bandung,” she said.
To welcome the holy month of Ramadan 1444 H, Universitas Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung (UnMuh Babel), in collaboration with the Muhammadiyah Pangkalpinang primary clinic, held a health screening test for lecturers and educational personnel on Saturday (04/03) at the UnMuh Babel Sports Field. This program allowed lecturers and staff to consult directly with doctors for medical check-ups, including examining vital signs, blood sugar, uric acid, cholesterol, and teeth, for both BPJS and non-BPJS patients. This health screening test was conducted after the lecturers and staff did physical exercise together.
UM Babel Chancellor, Ir. Fadillah Sabri, S.T., M.Eng., IPM, also participated in the health screening test of Doctor Sigit and the team. The Chancellor’s health condition was normal and fit, therefore he was ready to welcome the holy month of Ramadan.
The Rector appealed to all UnMuh BaBel academicians to do regular check-ups at the Muhammadiyah primary clinic located on KH. Hasan Basri Sulaiman street, Batin Tikal, Pangkalpinang, next to the Muhajirin mosque. “Let’s welcome the holy month of Ramadan with the spirit of self-introspection, self-improvement, so that we can fast for the whole month and be both physically and spiritually healthy,” he said.
Primananda Arief Aulianto, a student at Universitas Muhammadiyah Metro (UM Metro), has won international achievement at the 6th Kartini International Archery Championship 2023, which took place at the Gelora Bung Karno Senayan (GBK) archery field on March 2-5, 2023.
Nanda, as he is commonly called, won a gold medal for the first qualification session in the compound men’s category and a silver medal for the compound men’s elimination category. Nanda explained that to win the medals, he had to compete against various domestic and foreign athletes, including those from Malaysia.
“Nanda participated in the International Kartini at GBK Senayan. Alhamdulillah, we won 1st and 2nd place. Incidentally, my opponent was from Malaysia,” wrote Nanda via WhatsApp on Monday (6/3). According to him, this competition is a preparation event for the upcoming National Sports Week (PON). “It is a preparation for the pre-PON selection,” he added.
This international championship was organized by the Central Board of Indonesian Archery Association (Perpani) and was attended by hundreds of athletes from three countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The Rector of UM Metro, Drs. H. Jazim Ahmad, M.Pd., expressed his pride in having students who excel at the international level. “Of course, we are very proud of the news about our student , Primananda Arief Aulianto. We always support our students in participating in various types of competitions. One form of our appreciation is by providing scholarships of tuition fee deductions or cash,” he said.
Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) will soon be 42 years old. Various series of events in celebrating UMY’s anniversary have also been organized. One of the agendas is a night of reflection which was just held on Tuesday (28/02) at the UMY KH. Ahmad Dahlan mosque with the theme “42 Years of UMY, Be Persistent in Work and Achievement”.
The Rector of UMY, Prof. Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P., IPM. ASEAN. Eng in his speech said that the night of reflection became a moment to remember the struggle of UMY establishment figures. “The night of reflection is held the night before March 1 every year as a moment for UMY academics to remember the establishment figures of UMY. It aimed to raise UMY academics’ understanding to continue their struggles,” said Gunawan.
Gunawan also revealed in his speech that UM Yogyakarta will be deeply committed to continue the struggle of UMY establishment figures to gain its goal to be an excellent and best campus. Gunawan also hopes that UMY will be able to produce the best Muhammadiyah cadres who contribute to the nation.
“UMY hopes to be able to produce the best Muhammadiyah cadres who will contribute to the nation. From 2020, UMY sent lecturers to Europe to study with full scholarships from UM Yogyakarta. It aimed to increase the capacity of lecturers and also improve the academic quality of UM Yogyakarta. Currently, various UMY alumni and lecturers have important roles in government agencies, from ambassadors to heads of law enforcement agencies such as the Judicial Commission,” he continued.
One of the initiators of the establishment figures, Drs. H.M. Alfian Darmawan, on the same occasion, said that he never dreamed that UMY could become a large campus with varied achievements. “In the past, UMY had no buildings. We even rented a 6×30 shop on Ahmad Dahlan Street which is currently a perfume shop. We also borrowed Muhammadiyah 1 High School for the class. In the second year of UMY’s establishment, we only received less than 100 applicants. Seeing UMY which is currently huge, we are very grateful, because we didn’t even dream of it before. I am proud of UMY which is increasingly developed and qualified,” he explained.
He prompted the academic civitas to enthusiastically continue the advancement. “I never imagined before that UM Yogyakarta would become a large university and have the same quality as well-known state universities. Undoubtedly, it cannot be separated from the struggle and hard work of all of us, but it should not stop here because we have to improve UM Yogyakarta, and we should remember that UM Yogyakarta was established to educate the future cadres of Muhammadiyah leaders and national figures,” he said.
Dr. KH Tafsir, MAg, the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Provincial Board in Central Java explained that in 42 years of human age, it enters maturity. It has great wisdom. He hoped that UM Yogyakarta will continue to produce a real contribution to society and also to the international world. He also said that the achievement was from the consistency to continue on the path formed by its founders.
“The achievements achieved by UM Yogyakarta certainly cannot be separated from the role of UM Yogyakarta’s predecessors. It is also a result of persistence to continually be in the ideas that have been formed by previous predecessors,” he continued when presenting an oration.
In line with Dr. K.H. Tafsir, M.Ag, the Chairman of the UM Yogyakarta Daily Advisory Board (BPH), Dr. H. Agung Danarto, M.Ag advised to be consistent and improve the achievements to bring UMY to another milestone. On the same occasion, UM Yogyakarta also provided free Umrah for 45 UM Yogyakarta employees and distributed door prizes with the main prizes of 2 motorbikes and a refrigerator.
