Endang Tirtana Invites ITB-AD Students Using Technology In Social Interest

Endang Tirtana Invites ITB-AD Students Using Technology In Social Interest

Times are getting more complex as technology develops. Such rapid changes must be responded to quickly by disrupting ourselves measurably. The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and robots marked the arrival of a new era, namely the Society 5.0 era. In order to respond to this, the Institute of Technology and Business Ahmad Dahlan Jakarta (ITB-AD) raised the theme “Society 5.0: Freedom to Organize the Future” at the Pre-Graduation Seminar to prepare students or prospective ITB-AD graduates to enter the world of work or industry, Saturday (25/2).

Endang Tirtana, the Independent Commissioner of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) as the guest speaker, mentioned people must be wise in using modern technology-based knowledge. “If one is not capable, then one will be eliminated or pushed aside in life. Ease will be obtained by people who dare to innovate and utilize technology,” he said in front of hundreds of ITB-AD students.

Endang, who is also a researcher from the Maarif Institute, explained that in the midst of the pandemic, when the Indonesian economy was affected and experiencing a slump on all fronts, there was one company that managed to earn IDR 136 billion in just a few months. The company did not sell luxury products, nor is it a unicorn company. But it managed to combine two important elements in modern human life, namely collaboration between technology and social solidarity, namely kitabisa.com.

“Supporting children dropping out of school, parents who are unemployed due to the pandemic and others. This is a clear example of the use of technology and innovation that benefits many people. Technology is not just used for consumptive things and showing off on social media,” he said.

Furthermore, Endang referred to a study in the Psychological Science journal which reported that in their research in the US, a person’s quality of life, longevity and success were not influenced by how much they earned, but by the quality of their social relationships. “Although many predict that humans will be replaced by machines, bots, and artificial intelligence. But, I believe, bots, machines and AI do not have one of the most essential things in life, which is feelings and solidarity,” he concluded.

Nakadzia Rika Andriani, a student of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) managed to get a Bachelor of Communication degree after completing the Double Degree Program at Dong-A University, South Korea. This program, she continued, was a program that can be followed by UMS double degree students and will later get two degrees, a degree in Indonesia, namely S.I.Kom and a degree when completing studies in Korea, namely Bachelor of Communication.

Nakadzia mentioned her interest towards this program arose when she was still in the third semester. “When I knew the information, I immediately consulted with my lecturer first,” said Nakadzia, Friday (24/02). She admitted that she was surprised by the culture there. The learning system of Korean students is the same as what she saw from Korean dramas in general. “It turns out that people are ambitious when it comes to education,” she added.

The student from Cilegon also said that if the Semester Credit Units (SKS) of students at Dong-A University have been fulfilled, the students can register for graduation with the requirement of choosing between working on a thesis or using a language certificate. “I took a language certificate as a graduation requirement,” she explained.

Besides studying, Nakadzia also takes part time and works part time there. “Here, I worked part-time every Saturday-Sunday, which is enough to pay for tuition, rent house, food, and so on. I worked on Saturday-Sunday, so from Monday to Friday I focused on studying and completing all my assignments. So far, there have been no obstacles,” she said. She also explained that she did not decide when she would return to Indonesia because she got a job there.

She also advised students who want to join the Double Degree program, especially if the destination of the country is not English speaking countries, they can maximize their language learning in Indonesia. Because it will be difficult in daily communication, if they take a course abroad due to the high cost. In addition, mental preparation is also very important.

This achievement is also inseparable from the support provided by the Communication Studies Program and the Cooperation and International Affairs Bureau (BKUI) in assisting the administration requirements. Head of BKUI, Andy Dwi Bayu Bawono, Ph.D appreciated Nakadzia’s achievement at Dong A Korea. “Job opportunities in Korea are much greater if you take a double degree program in UMS,” he explained.

The documents prepared to fill out the Annual Tax Return include proof of income tax withholding, family card, list of assets, and list of debts.

Ahmad Juanda, Head of UMM General Administration Bureau, appreciated the tax class. He emphasized that UMM always complies with and is ready to pay taxes as citizen’s obligation.
