Nabil Chaniago is a Metro professional taekwondo athlete. Currently, Nabil is studying in the second semester at the English Education Study Program (PBI) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Muhammadiyah Metro (UM Metro). According to Nabil, since the COVID-19 pandemic, there had never been Taekwondo Competition as usual. But it did not dampen his enthusiasm to continue practicing. “I continue to practice regularly as usual even though there is no competition, but yesterday I tried to take part in a virtual Taekwondo competition for the Poomsae (art) category,” he said.
Nabil’s competition was the Online Indonesia International Biho Championship 2021, on April 12, 2021. This competition was participated by several countries and only specifically for the Poomsae (art) category. “Alhamdulillah, I won a silver medal; I didn’t expect it because my usual basic is fighting. Before participating in the competition, I practiced hard to learn Poomsae, and the results did not disappoint,” said Nabil.
Of course, this is not the first achievement for this black belt and Kukkiwon II owner. He also often won competitions at the regional and national levels. In 2017, Nabil won 1st place at the open national championship in Palembang. Nabil admitted that he started actively practicing Taekwondo in his 2nd grade of Elementary School.
In addition, the student who was born in Metro, February 25, 2002, is also active as a Taekwondo coach at the dojang Gedta Taekwondo. He is proud that he has also guided his juniors to participate in national-level competitions. [] UM Metro Community Relation
