Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) distributes groceries for communities on the surrounding campus on Tuesday (19/04). The distribution served as UMSU concern on the Covid-19 pandemic-affected people and strengthened UMSU relations in Ramadan 1443 H. On this occasion, six hundred grocery packages were distributed. Several representatives from the communities symbolically received the packages that would be distributed around campus for each district head, the village head, and the neighborhood chief.
The Rector of UMSU, Prof Dr Agussani MAP attended the groceries distribution. “The distribution of groceries packages is regularly organized as our concern in the communities and an implementation of Tri Dharma ‘three values’ of Higher Education Institutions, especially in community services,” he said. He continued by mentioning his expectation to present values related to UM Sumatera Utara concerns. “Besides concerning education, UMSU also cares about social concern and health in communities,” he said.
It also served to enhance the community spirit between UM Sumatera Utara and surrounding communities. The groceries packages contain rice, cooking oil, and a variety of foods also distributed to cleaning service and security guard personnel in UM Sumatera Utara.
Noor Alfi Pane, East Medan district head, also attended the distribution and appreciated UMSU’s concern for communities. The agenda became a tradition as the 12th program since Prof Agussani led. “UMSU groceries packages are very beneficial for the communities, especially the underprivileged persons,” he said, as reported on the UM Sumatera Utara site.
