UMP and MKKS Organize National Seminar Discussing Independent Curriculum

To encourage the implementation of the educational curriculum, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP) collaborated with Principal Consultative Work (MKKS) of Banyumas Secondary Schools to organize the National Seminar on Education Development. The seminar that raised the theme “The Implementation of Independent Curriculum and 21st Century Transformation” was opened directly by the Rector of UMP, Dr Jebul Suroso. He was accompanied by the Director of the Master Program, Dr Furqanul Aziez, located in Ukhuwah Islamiyah Auditorium, Tuesday (12/04).

The seminar invited various expert speakers, including Dr Sriyanto, MPd, the Head of Social Science Education department of UMP, and Sri Hartati, SPd, MPd, the Institute of Educational Quality Assurance (LPMP) Central Java. “I think we have already become a big family: management, actors, educators, especially in Banyumas. I also believe in our seniors from UMP, and perhaps from the UMP Alumni,” said Dr Jebul Suroso, the Rector of UMP, in his remarks.

The Chairman of MKKS Banyumas, Suharyanto, MPd explained that schools should motivate children to study, physically and mentally to regain their motivation to study. “It is an uneasy job, so we need to synergize with various stakeholders,” said Suharyanto, in a statement.

Dr Sriyanto also agreed with the Chairman of MKKS. He also said that the implementation of the independent curriculum is closely related to the 2013 curriculum evaluation result and the educational condition in Indonesia due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “When the Covid-19 pandemic struck, it significantly affected education, especially, the children experienced learning loss,” he said. Hundreds of UMS Rappang Prospective Students Followed Academic Potential Test

The Student Admissions Committee of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidenreng Rappang (UMS Rappang) in the Year 2022/2023 followed the first online test for prospective students who enroll at UMS Rappang’s independent student admission site on Monday (11/04). Besides undergoing Computer Based Test (CBT), the admission committee also provided an online test for the students outside Sidrap. The total number of prospective students who followed the test was 432 students.

The online test aimed to select several students with excellent academic capabilities to follow the test based on their competencies. The prospective students could freely choose their study program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidenreng Rappang. After undergoing the online test, prospective students followed the interview on the following day with their selected faculty. Furthermore, students outside Sidrap, comprising Papua, East Nusa Tenggara, West Sulawesi, and Kalimantan, were allowed to take online tests in their houses.

Kemdikbudristek Verifies SMK-PK Programs in Unismuh Makassar

The Sub-Coordinator for Evaluation, Directorate General of Vocational Education, The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) visited Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh Makassar), Tuesday (12/04). Kemdikbudristek representative, Suharto SE MM, conducted the verification for the assistance program for Vocational Education-Prominent Programs (SMK-PK) in Unismuh Makassar. On this occasion, the Rector of Unismuh Makassar, Prof Ambo Asse warmly welcomed Suharto SE MM in the Rector’s Office, Igra Building on the 17th Floor. Prof Ambo Asse was also accompanied by Vice-Rector I, Dr Abd Rakhim Nanda, and Vice-Rector IV, Drs KH Mawardi Pewangi MPd.I.

The verification of the SMK-PK program in Unismuh Makassar was placed in the Senate Room on the 17th Floor. During the verification process, the Chairman and the Secretary of the Institute for Development and Instructional Improvement (LP2AI), Dr Nasrun and Ishaq Madeamin SPd MPd also followed the process. “The verification aims to share programs in SMK-PK that have been organized before,” said Nasrun.

On this occasion, Suharto SE MM also mentioned Vocational Educations in several provinces in Indonesia that need assistance programs to elevate their graduates’ competence in the workplace. Unismuh, one of the universities capable of assisting, was expected to support it. Various Vocational education in Maluku and Papua requires assistance, including several Vocational schools in South Sulawesi.

UHAMKA Students Follow Lecture from UiTM Malaysia

Twenty-three students of the Pharmacy department Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof DR HAMKA (UHAMKA) followed a lecture from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia, Thursday (31/03). The lecture was conducted in the Pharmacy department, Puncak Alam, Malaysia. They took Nutraceutical and Cosmeceutical Science classes for two credits.

The Dean of Pharmacy and Science (FFS) UHAMKA, Hadi Sunaryo, mentioned the purpose of the agenda. According to him, the agenda was a follow-up program from a Memorandum of Agreement from both parties. Besides the lecture, outbound and inbound programs for students, higher education offers in Pharmacy UiTM to FFS lecturers, collaborative research, and International seminars. “Since last 2021, UHAMKA and UiTM had agreed to sign the Memorandum of Agreement,” said Hadi Sunaryo, as reported on the UHAMKA site.

Afterwards, Inding Gusmayadi, the Vice-Dean I, explained that the collaboration was conducted due to the coordination of both parties. Besides the collaborative program, there was also UHAMKA’s Office for International Affairs contribution. It aimed to facilitate the administration. “Following UiTM’s lecture will provide new valuable experiences for UHAMKA students. They also gained different knowledge from the courses they usually do due to the different mediums of instruction, English combined with Malay and Indonesian language. The outbound lecture also aimed to improve UHAMKA’s quality and develop students’ competitiveness in ASEAN level to global,” he said.

UMY Student Selected As 2022 GenRe Ambassador of Yogyakarta

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) Student becomes 2022 GenRe Ambassador of Yogyakarta on Sunday (27/03). The selection of Genre Ambassador was conducted in Sahid Raya Hotel. Sixty participants who were high school and college students followed the training. Ten selected participants were chosen as coupled participants in GenRe Ambassador crowned as 2022 GenRe Ambassador of Yogyakarta. Of ten participants, Sukardi, an Accounting Student of UMY, became one of them.

Sukardi was grateful for the achievement he had accomplished. “Alhamdulillah, I am glad and grateful for this achievement. I will do my best in carrying this mandate,” said Sukardi, as reported on the UMY site. The GenRe or Generasi Berencana (well-planned youth) is a program initiated by the National Population and Family Planning Board to prepare the young generation for a future career, education, and positive insights into reproductive health, family planning, and teenage problems. Meanwhile, the GenRe Ambassador would serve as a motivator and influencer for the young generation. “Moreover, we will have roles in delivering insights to the youth in reproductive health,” he said.

Afterwards, for the implementation, Sukardi intended to establish the Student Information and Counseling Center (PIK M) in UMY. “I hope I can establish PIK M in UMY that was previously limited to the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. So, I will introduce PIK M to all students in the university,” said Sukardi.

Furthermore, Sukardi would also educate youth about HIV and drug abuse. He assumed that the lack of understanding of drug safety knowledge led teenagers into using illegal substances.

UMSIDA Obtains 12 Awards in Banyuwangi Championship II

Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo (UMSIDA) achieved various awards in Banyuwangi Championship II that included Indonesian Martial Arts (Pencak Silat) Competition from 20-22 March. The UMSIDA student team won 12 medals consisting of 7 gold medals, one silver medal, and four bronze medals. They competed with several participants from Banyuwangi, Jember, Surabaya, and many other cities. Therefore, the achievement brought them to the runner-up of Overall Champion in the Adult category.

Arya Bimantara explained that they had exercised for two months. “Alhamdulillah, it has paid off,” he said. He also mentioned that he and his team had practiced four times a week. In the second month, they also had extra preparation. Bima mentioned the strategy to encourage other members by applying their exercises in several phases that should be improved. “For the training outputs, both physical and technical conditions should be elevated every week. It is beneficial when they compete, they have adaptation reflex, and they used to exceed their physical abilities,” he added. Besides using strategy and technique, the UMSIDA team also combined efforts and prayers.

Lastly, he also hoped that Tapak Suci (Muhammadiyah Martial Arts) UMSIDA could achieve more accomplishments in the following competitions and enhance the reputation of the Autonomous Organization in UMSIDA. “I also hope we can get full support from universities related to facilities that support students, from training facilities, funding, accommodation, branding, and appreciation for those who strive for achievement. It can encourage the students to improve themselves and bring UMSIDA and Tapak Suci to be more widely recognized,” he said.

Discussion Series for Dissemination of Research Findings

Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (CHERD) held a Webinar for Dissemination of Risetmu Research Grant Batch 5, Wednesday (06/04). By raising the theme “Economic Empowerment and Community Welfare”, the discussion series was conducted online through Zoom Meeting and attended by over 200 participants.

In his remarks, Prof Chairil Anwar mentioned research as the second Catur Dharma in Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs). Therefore, the discussion program aimed to encourage research and community service’s enthusiasm in civitas academics, develop Science, Technology, and Arts, and elevate the community welfare to have the higher competitiveness than other nations. It also aimed to complete five national standards and publish research findings in a paper seminar. “In Batch 5, Risetmu had opened a priority program and included the most coveted programs, namely Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM),” said the Deputy Chair of CHERD. He also expected MHEIs to improve STEM research in the future.

The dissemination webinar also served as research information sharing represented by 37 researchers on 35 campuses of MHEIs. Later, the discussion would be conducted in eight sessions twice a week with different topics and resource persons. For the first discussion series, Nur Faidati, S.IP., M.A (Unisa Yogyakarta), Fatma Yuniarti, M.Pd., B.I (UM Pringsewu), Dr. Gusniarti, M.A. (UM Prof DR HAMKA), Dr. Indah Sulistiani, S.E., M.I.Kom (UM Papua), and Dyah Titis Kusuma Wardani, MIDEC. Ph.D. (UM Yogyakarta) presented their research findings.

UM Jakarta International Achievement in Short-Movie Competition

Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UM Jakarta) students won an International competition on Sunday (27/03). Mohammad Ya’ishy Ghifari followed a competition named International 3-Minute Nusantara Video Challenge. The student of the Communication Department, the Faculty of Social and Political Science, UM Jakarta, sent a 3-minute video entitled Sundanese Land. The program was also followed by the participants in various countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, The Philippines, Papua Niugini, and many other countries. The competition was a collaborative program between i-WIN (International Waqaf Ilmu Nusantara) Library, Nusantara Malay Archipelago Research of Centre for Policy and International Studies (CenPRIS) of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), and Indonesian Student Association of USM.

In his Sundanese Land movie, Mohammad Ya’isy Ghifari portrayed Sunda with its natural wealth, art, culture, and history. He also persuades communities to rediscover their own history, culture, and tradition. “I give (waqf) the video to International Wakaf Ilmu Nusantara (i-WIN). I hope it will be beneficial for the audiences,” he said.

The other participants from 2020 Communication Science students comprised Ahmad Jaeni, Ammar Fakhrudin, Dohan Mandela, Fadli Muhammad Tanjung, Febrian Rifky Fadhillah, Indra Yunan, and Nabeel Putra Hartadi, in this International competition, also won the Outstanding Videography and Video with Motivational Theme.

IAIM Sinjai Training of Technological Science Empowers Students

The Institute for Islamic Studies Muhammadiyah (IAIM) Sinjai held the training of Technological Science on Wednesday (06/04). The training was conducted by the Student Association for the Quran and Tafsir Studies Department (HIMPIAT). The department is involved in the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Communication in IAIM Sinjai. 

The speaker of the training was the Quran and Tafsir Studies Department alumnus named Andi Muhammad Ilham Septian, S.Ag. During his studies, Andi served as General Secretary of the Student Association for the Quran and Tafsir Studies Department from 2018 to 2019. He also served as General Secretary of Quran and Tafsir Studies Department Alumni and Young Da’i Council of Sinjai Regency. 

Asdir, the Coordinator of Communication Media and Public Relations of HIMPIAT, explained that the training aimed at improving HIMPIAT members’ knowledge. “In the future, Quran and Tafsir Studies Department students, besides learning Qur’an, also have competencies in technology,” he said, as reported on the IAIM Sinjai site. The Merger of Four Campuses, UMMAH Officially Established

Universitas Muhammadiyah Mahakarya Aceh (UMMAH) officially established based on the Decree of the Ministry for Higher Education, Research, and Development No. 234/E/O/2022. The merger of Muhammadiyah campuses was officially launched by the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Prof Dr Muhadjir Effendy. Muhammadiyah Regional Board of Bireun and Central Aceh, Bireuen Regent, Central Aceh Regent witnessed the procession. To be an Islamic Sociopreneurship institution, four campuses that comprise of Akademi Keperawatan Muhammadiyah Bireuen, Sekolah Tinggi Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Muhammadiyah Aceh Tengah, Sekolah Tinggi Kesehatan Harapan Bangsa Banda Aceh, and Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Psikologi Harapan Bangsa Banda Aceh merged.

Muhammadiyah Province Board of Aceh, Dr H Muharrir Asy’ari LC M.Ag expected UMMAH would become an Islamic campus and highlight morality and intellectuality. “We hope UMMAH will develop the health and medical science and become a professional cadre institution of Muhammadiyah in general. We, Muhammadiyah Aceh, have the intention to turn Bireuen to be one of the best student cities in Aceh,” he said, as reported in suaramuhammadiyah.id.

Muharrir emphasized Muhammadiyah that over a-century-old keep committed as a movement that would enlighten the broader communities, and develop the country (baldatun thoyyibatun warobbun ghofur). Muhammadiyah also has various services in education, health, and social science where all facilities were built for the communities, for everyone, not only for Muhammadiyah members.

Biruen Regent, Dr H Muzakkar A Gani explained UMMAH aroused a long history of Aceh education. It is illustrated that since 1928, Bireuen people have studied in formal education. He also expected that UMMAH would continuously develop and have higher competitiveness as a state university. “I am confident that UMMAH will overcome every challenge and embrace values of the struggle and Islamic education of the city,” he said.
