Leadership becomes a vital key to developing Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah Higher Education Institution (MHEI)s progression. Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (CHERD) constantly attempts to improve leadership by conducting five leadership training sessions. Muhammad Sayuti, MPd MEd PhD mentioned it when he delivered his remarks on Thursday (09/12). The recent agenda was a part of the Leadership Dialogue of Higher Education Institutions #2 series entitled “To Create Innovation and Creativity Into Reality.” Prof Dr Bambang Setiaji, the Rector of UM Kalimantan Timur, and Dr. Rustamadji, MSi, the Rector of UNIMUDA Sorong was presented as the resource persons.
In his remarks, Muhammad Sayuti, the Secretary of CHERD, mentioned the book publication process which was organized during the pandemic. The book entitled “Mengelola Perubahan: Jalan Sukses Pemimpin Perguruan Tinggi” (To Develop Changes: The Success Stories of Higher Education Institution Leaders), currently, is already in the printing process. The book also demonstrates ten stories of MHEI rectors in managing the rapid transformation during the pandemic. “We expect that all leaders in MHEIs read Mengelola Perubahan. Furthermore, this book can be an inspiration to bring MHEIs progression and become the fundamental pillar in Muhammadiyah,” he said.
Sayuti also emphasized that the key indicator of the advancement was leadership. “We should produce new leaders for the MHEI progression,” he said. Moreover, Sayuti also prompted all leaders in MHEIs to conduct Baitul Arqam (Ideological Training) for the leaders. It aimed to standardize the Islamic leadership method in all MHEIs. “We hope that all MHEI leaders constantly learn. Only the lecturer who keeps studying might be allowed to teach. It means that only the MHEI leaders who continually learn to lead are allowed to lead,” he highlighted.
