Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo (UMSIDA) achieved various awards in Banyuwangi Championship II that included Indonesian Martial Arts (Pencak Silat) Competition from 20-22 March. The UMSIDA student team won 12 medals consisting of 7 gold medals, one silver medal, and four bronze medals. They competed with several participants from Banyuwangi, Jember, Surabaya, and many other cities. Therefore, the achievement brought them to the runner-up of Overall Champion in the Adult category.
Arya Bimantara explained that they had exercised for two months. “Alhamdulillah, it has paid off,” he said. He also mentioned that he and his team had practiced four times a week. In the second month, they also had extra preparation. Bima mentioned the strategy to encourage other members by applying their exercises in several phases that should be improved. “For the training outputs, both physical and technical conditions should be elevated every week. It is beneficial when they compete, they have adaptation reflex, and they used to exceed their physical abilities,” he added. Besides using strategy and technique, the UMSIDA team also combined efforts and prayers.
Lastly, he also hoped that Tapak Suci (Muhammadiyah Martial Arts) UMSIDA could achieve more accomplishments in the following competitions and enhance the reputation of the Autonomous Organization in UMSIDA. “I also hope we can get full support from universities related to facilities that support students, from training facilities, funding, accommodation, branding, and appreciation for those who strive for achievement. It can encourage the students to improve themselves and bring UMSIDA and Tapak Suci to be more widely recognized,” he said.
