Two Muhammadiyah Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs) had been listed as the top universities in ASEAN based on the ranking results conducted by AppliedHE. AppliedHE is an organization based at 20 Sin Ming Lane, #02-60 Midview City, Singapore.
Of the total private universities, two Muhammadiyah institutions managed to qualify the best category in ASEAN. The two campuses are Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP) and Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). Meanwhile, other private campuses from Indonesia include Bina Nusantara University, Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia, Telkom University, and Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII). In addition, the overseas campuses include those from the Philippines, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
Related to this achievement, the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Central Board, Prof. Irwan Akib expressed his gratitude for the ranking by AppliedHE as an international agency for university ranking. “From this achievement, of course, we hope that it will trigger us to continue to develop ourselves. And what has been achieved by Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP) and Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) is not only the pride of the two campuses, but also our prideful achievement,” said Prof. Irwan Akib said on Friday (24/2).
With this achievement, Prof. Irwan Akib has high hopes to develop more for future achievements. On its official website quoted in Purwokerto, Friday (23/2/2023) mentioned, AppliedHE Private University rankings only rank private universities, highlighting the quality of teaching & learning, employability, and research, as well as community engagement, internationalization, and institutional reputation. In addition to universities from ASEAN (Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam), the second ‘plus’ edition (2023) also features universities from beyond ASEAN, namely: Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, and Taiwan.
