Universitas Muhammadiyah Lamongan (UMLA) launched Halal Center Umla to provide halal and safety labels for Muslims in Indonesia, especially Lamongan. The launching procession was directly conducted by the Deputy Regent of Lamongan, KH Abdul Rouf MAg, Tuesday (19/04). Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Lamongan, Ministry of Religion Lamongan, Muhammadiyah Regional Board of Lamongan, and Daily Advisory Board of Umla also attended the procession. Besides the launching, Micro Small Medium Enterprise (MSME) or UMKM socialization and Assistance Training of Halal Process, Tuesday-Friday (19-22/04).
The establishment aims to maintain Muslim civilization in the rapid development of science and technology, especially related to edible products. “Umla’s effort should be highly appreciated for providing an enormous Muslim benefit,” said Abdul Rouf.
He also added that in line with elevating Muslim communities’ awareness, especially the importance of halal product utilization, even in lifestyle. “It is a good opportunity for the MSME owners that have halal products,” said the former Chairman of the National Zakat Board (Baznas) Lamongan.
The Rector of Umla, Dr Abdul Aziz Alimul Hidayat, explained that Halal Center Umla had been certified by the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) of the Religion Ministry along with various Higher Education Institutions in Indonesia.
Besides being an institution that educates and socializes halal product assurance, Umla also provides services for the certified proposal process of halal products. Through the MSME Assistance, it aimed to be a research center in halal product development. “Supported by halal laboratories, Umla readily accepts sample testing from food industry products,” he said.
