Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) students Zidni Ilman Nafian with his two colleagues, Alifia Oriana and Aldiansyah Wahyu designed the detector of suitable oil in Android-based. Under the guidance of Budiono, S.Si., M.T., the three UMM students successfully achieved funding research on Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional (PIMNAS). In addition, they also accomplished the Internasional Science Technology and Engineering (ISTEC) awards placed in Bandung a year ago. Not only the award, the detector also achieved the 3rd place on Pekan Kreativitas Mahasiswa antar Perguruan Tinggi Swasta Tingkat Nasional (PIMTANAS) competition, on last December.
Reported from the press statement, Zidni explained the ideas began by seeing the problems of motorized vehicles’ problems that potentially run out of gas on the way. “It should be hard because we have to push the vehicle and spend energy and time on the road,” he said Tuesday (19/01).
Technically, the detector is placed near the oil cover and measured if the oil is suitable to use. “Before demonstrating, we already measured what levels of suitable oil are. Then, we arranged a database for oil viscosity. There are several levels we made, starting from the good, moderate, or unacceptable oil viscosity level,” Zidni said.
He continued, the detector will send a signal to the application installed in the smartphone. The application will give the owner a warning sign and notification if the oil condition is not suitable to use. “It surely can ease the vehicle owners in estimating when they should replace their oil,” said the Mechanical Engineering student.
In the end, he hoped that the innovation would be beneficial for the community. “We are surely glad if the detector is useful to the communities, especially for those who own motorized vehicles. So they did not make assumptions or manually check their suitable oil,” he said.
