After succeeding in conducting the Internal Conference on Education and Psychology (ICEduPsy) a few weeks ago, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) reconducted the 2nd international conference entitled International Conference on Humanities and Social Science (ICHSoS). The agenda was initiated by the Faculty of Social Science and Political Issues on Sustainable Development in Post Covid-19 Crisis. Eighty writers in various countries were involved in the conference.
The conference was the critical effort of the academicians to handle the post-pandemic condition. In his remarks, the Vice-Rector I UMM, Prof Dr Syamsul Arifin, MSi, explained besides being a solution due to the pandemic crisis, ICHSoS also aimed to broaden the research project,” the UMM professor said.
In the opening and plenary session, ICHSoS invited the social science experts from Poland, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The expert staff, Prof Ravik Karsidi became the keynote speaker represented the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs. Prof Ravik explained that social science has various opportunities in post-pandemic treatment.
“If the medical science assessed Covid-19 as the deadly virus, in the sociology perspective, the Covid-19 pandemic creates new knowledge because of the natural transformation mutation. The Covid-19 was constructed as a chance to develop endogen policies to support the social innovation based on the local potencies,” Prof Ravik said.
In the panel session on the second day, eighty writers from various countries presented online their research results. From 80 participants divided into 12 breakout rooms in Zoom, Cosmas Gatot Haryono was selected as the Best Speaker for his paper entitled “Covid-19 Murals: Autocritic Messages From Society In The Public Sphere. Meanwhile, Salina Nen, Fauziah Ibrahim, and Norulhuda were awarded the Best Paper. Their research was entitled Depression, Anxiety, and Fear During The Covid-19 Pandemic Movement Control Order (MCO) in Malaysia.
