The Association for Communication Science Department in Muhammadiyah-‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (APIK PTMA) held a webinar on Thursday (28/04). The webinar entitled “Senggol Bestie: Tik Tok utilization for campus promotion programs”. Tik Tok is currently becoming a popular social media platform for the younger generation because its users are basically teenagers. The demographic status of the Tik Tok users made this platform suitable for the promotion on students’ enrollment.
“The Campus Public Relation and Administration Bureau should manage Tik Tok contents. Tik Tok can be a publication media that is compatible with its active user trends,” said Rudianto, the Vice Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU).
Indonesian teenagers between 14-24 years old tend to be Tik Tok users. Tik Tok has become one popular platform for prospective students based on this user segmentation. It encourages several MHEIs to utilize Tik Tok. Meanwhile, Tik Tok is also identified with its ‘cheesy’ character that raises challenges in creativity and ethics.
The resource persons of the webinar were Erwan Sudiwijaya (Communication Science lecturer of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta), Nurudin (Communication Science lecturer of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang), Agung Tirta Wibawa (Communication Science lecturer of Universitas Muhammadiyah Bandung), and Muhammad Najih Farihanto (Communication Science lecturer of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan). Besides Rudianto, Muhammad Himawan Sutanto also became a keynote speaker as the Chairman of APIK PTMA. “To reach FYP, we should understand the trend, prepare production well, and know the audience,” said Najih.
Fajar Junaedi from UMY led the agenda as the moderator. Fajar explained that contents from MHEIs that reach FYP triggered the idea to conduct the webinar. One hundred and ten participants followed the webinar on the last Ramadhan.
