UMM Invented MONIKEL Technology Exposes Soil Moisture

UMM Invented MONIKEL Technology Exposes Soil Moisture

Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) students invented MONIKEL technology that succeeded in getting the Directorate General of Higher Education funding. The technology named MONIKEL is derived from Soil Moisture Monitoring on onion through Telegram Chatbot message. The team included the technology in Student Creativity Program-Karsa Cipta (PKM-KC) and got the fund. The technology aimed to expose an uncertain onion price situation due to crop failure.

One of the UMM team, Muhammad Iqbaludin Zaky, mentioned that the crop failure was considered due to erratic weather patterns. The unpredictable weather impacted the soil moisture, and it influenced the onion growth. The onion needs a lot of water supply. “Sometimes, torrential rain soaked the onion. The amount of soil moisture will affect disease and vermin on onion, or narrowing in shape,” he said.

The MONIKEL technology is based on the internet of things (IoT) by using Arduino technology and Telegram chatbot messages. This device prototype will be connected to Telegram by the farmers and set on several points of land. If the land dries, the farmers would receive a notification. Zaky developed the device with his three partners, including Gilly Huga Anargya, Farli Nahtul Javier, and Wahyu Budi Utomo. Recently, the MONIKEL is in the development process, however, it will be ready to circulate on the market.

Muhammadiyah CHERD SARMMI Represents Muhammadiyah Philanthropy Movement.

Muhammadiyah CHERD: SARMMI Represents Muhammadiyah Philanthropy Movement.

For over a century, Muhammadiyah had been concerned with disaster management. Before Indonesia’s Independence Day, Muhammadiyah had sent humanitarian workers to Blitas, East Java to help eruption victims in Kelud Mountain. It was an essential history of the disaster movement in Indonesia that is poorly known to the public. That was a statement from the Vice-Secretary of Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (CHERD), Adam Jerusalem when delivering his remarks. The statement was mentioned in the closing ceremony of the National Meeting of SAR Mapala (Student Association for Environmental and Adventure Activity) Muhammadiyah Indonesia (SARMMI) in UM Purwokerto Auditorium, Sunday (07/08).

He continued that on 20 May 1912, the Kelud Mountain erupted and caused many deaths. At that moment, the President of Muhammadiyah Central Board, Kyai Sujak in Kauman, Yogyakarta took strategic and effective plans to support eruption victims. It inspired Kyai Sujak, KH. Ahmad Dahlan and other boards established a special body, named PKU (Assistance for the Relief of Public Suffering).

Year by year, the philanthropic movement in Muhammadiyah was actualized across borders, distance, religion, and other barriers. “The Philanthropic movement of Muhammadiyah has been actualized across barriers because Muhammadiyah movement and preaching genuinely exists in that way (without borders),” he stated online. The Muhammadiyah movement does not stop in public sermons, fiqh, worshiping practices, or an agenda. However, it also involves community practices, especially to assist communities in various ways.

For the roles of SARMMI in disaster management, Adam Jerusalem considers SARMMI relevant to what the founding fathers of Muhammadiyah fought for. “SARMMI has significant and essential roles because SAR is urgently required when facing a natural disaster, health catastrophe, and humanitarian disaster,” said Adam Jerusalem.

Therefore, he continued, the new board program of SARMMI in 2022-2024 should be more progressive and advantegeous to the communities and Muhammadiyah – ‘Aisiyiyah Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs). SARMMI with various agendas should create one capacity-building program for members. This capacity-building program was closely related to providing assistance and supporting the victims of natural disasters.

Apart from that, Adam Jerusalem highlighted the need to strengthen collaboration, communication, and coordination among SAR organizations in MHEIs. SARMMI is a Safe and Rescue organization that has Muhammadiyah characteristics that differ from other similar institutions. “So when a natural disaster happens, you can consolidate to produce an efficient and effective support program,” he added. In front of all participants of the National Meeting, he prompted all Muhammadiyah members to sympathize with doing something. “Also when a natural disaster occurs, people in communities, MHEIs’ academicians, especially the students should be more responsive in responding to the disaster,” Adam Jerusalem concluded.

Recently, UMS Has Two More Professors in Law and Sociology of Islam

Recently, UMS Has Two More Professors in Law and Sociology of Islam

Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has two more professors in law and sociology of Islam that has been inaugurated in Muhammad Jazman Building, UMS on Saturday (06/08). The inauguration of Prof. Dr. MA Fattah Santoso, M.Ag as Professor of Islamic Education, and Prof. Dr. Kelik Wardiono, S.H., M.H. as the Professor of Law was conducted with dignity.

The process of Prof. Kelik’s achievement as a professor was relatively smooth received in less than 2 years. On the other hand, Prof. Fattah should experience a peculiar one. He retired on 1 September 2019, so the process to be a Professor stopped in 2018 due to the migration requirement from National Lecturer Registration Number (NIDN) to Special Lecturer Registration Number (NIDK). After receiving NIDK in 2020, Fattah continued to struggle with his students and colleges’ motivation, especially the Rector of UMS, Prof. Sofyan Anif. At last, after 3 years, his Professor title has been crowned on him on 1 April 2022 when he was 67 years.

Prof. Fattah prompted the young lecturers to keep working on their scientific works and always make a good relationship with Allah. “Young lecturers should work harder, when there is a chance to achieve accomplishment, don’t despair but be persistent. Don’t forget to make a good relationship with Allah,” Prof. Fattah hoped. Prof. Fattah explained that the Sociology of Islam is a solid scientific discipline that examines the physic-material dimension and non-physic-spiritual of human beings and communities in integrated unity and using wisdom, mind, and empirical element as the source of knowledge. So, the sociology of Islam has a holistic character, besides transformative (aim to individual and social transformation to improve their status and dignity, without bias for specific group, class, and community that oppress as a critic for mainstream sociology. Therefore, the sociology of Islam can be an alternative to the mainstream sociology.

Meanwhile, Prof Kelik mentioned transcendental, liberation, and humanism as the source of legal science. Besides aim to create humans that can produce kindness for themselves as humans and fair self-positioning in reality as a whole, it also aims to create equity for themselves, the environment, and the universe.

STIKes Muh Tegal Implements AIK through Islamic sermon

STIKes Muh Tegal Implements AIK through Islamic sermon

Thousands of Muhammadiyah – ‘Aisyiyah members and regional board of autonomous organizations in Tegal followed Islamic Sermon that raised “Holistic Education: Muhammadiyah Ijtihad in Digital Era’. The sermon that invited H. R Alpha Amirrachman, M. Phil, Ph.D, the Secretary of Muhammadiyah Council for Primary and Secondary School (Dikdasmen) as a speaker, located in STIKes Muh Tegal, Sunday (07/08). In his remarks, H. Akhmad Bukhori, SKM., M.Kes., the Vice Chairman of Muhammadiyah Regional Board of Tegal appreciated the agenda.

As the Daily Advisory Board (BPH) of STIKes Muh Tegal, he mentioned that Muhammadiyah members should celebrate Muktamar (the National Congress of Muhammadiyah) in November. To support the educational development in Tegal, he also reminded parents to send their children to STIKes Muh Tegal. “Every leader in Muhammadiyah Local Board and Branch Board should send their children to STIKes Muhammadiyah Tegal,” he said.

He also invited all members to support STIKes Muhammadiyah Tegal’s development to build the front gate and Pharmacy Laboratory equipment. “Alhamdulillah, the donation reaches Rp 193.000.000 (a hundred and ninety-three million rupiahs) and we still open the donation for Muhammadiyah members that have the great fortune to donate in STIKes Muh Tegal,” he said in front of the sermon’s participants.

One argument why Muhammadiyah service institutions (AUM) in education can exist amid a rapid transformational era and a series of command changes is because educational institutions from Muhammadiyah grow from the grassroots. “It means that it was not controlled by Muhammadiyah Central Board, but the AUM is independent and has experienced a very dynamic movement with a full commitment of its founders,” he added.
