UM Palembang Student As Sumsel Culinary Ambassador

A student of Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang (UM Palembang) got achievement on Sunday (27/02). He achieved 2022 Men’s Talented Winner of Sumatera Selatan (Sumsel) Culinary Ambassador. He is an Islamic Economic Studies department, Islamic Studies faculty (FAI) UM Palembang, Mamun Ajaib. Mamun Ajaib mentioned his motivation to follow the competition was to promote Sumsel’s rich culinary heritage.

He also expected that other students in UMPalembang could accomplish in other competitions. “Achieving accomplishment can be the preparation for a better future,” he said. Afterwards, the Vice-Rector III Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang, Dr Ir Mukhtaruddin Muchsiri MP appreciated Mamun Ajaib’s accomplishment. He mentioned the achievement as concrete evidence of UM Palembang students’ capabilities. “That Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang students can achieve accomplishment and develop off-campus activities,” said Mukhtaruddin, as reported on UM Palembang site.

Moreover, Dr Mukhtaruddin also expected Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang students could do the same way in the future, to be a winner based on their competencies. UMS Pharmacy Team Won 1st Place in Asia Pacific Competition

Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has another International accomplishment. Tim 17 Farmasi UMS (the team from Pharmacy UMS) became the best team and won first place in the Industrial Skill Event (ISE) competition organized by International Pharmaceutical Student’s Federation (IPSF) Asia Pacific Regional Office. This achievement prevailed over UI and UGM to be runner-up I and II places. The other finalists defeated were ITB and the University of The Phillippines team.

“The achievement proves our Pharmacy students is excellent and able to compete in the international level,” said the Dean of Pharmacy, Apt Erindyah Wikantyasning, Ph.D. through a written statement (26/02). In short, the campus would provide significant opportunities to students in accomplishing national and international competitions. “For the students that challenge themselves to compete with foreign students, they can join the global championship,” said Peni Indrayudha Ph.D. as the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Collaboration.

As mentioned, the team comprised of the 2018 Pharmacy students including Diva Ratna Shabrina, Naufal Faras, and Dimas Satrio Utomo. They submitted a proposal about the drug delivery innovation through the microneedles systems (MNs). Diva Ratna and the team presented their innovation in Dietilkarbamazin citrate (DEC) optimized through nano-emulsion loaded delivery of Dissolving Microneedle (NE loaded DMNs). “Not only to innovate in the formulation, but they also explained about the marketing strategy, curative purposes, health technology assessment, clinical trial strategy in phase 3-4, legal regulation, pharmacovigilance, and cost-benefit analysis,” said Diva. She added that the DEC compound is lymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis) medicine.

apt Dr. Arifah Sri Wahyuni, MSc, the Head of the Pharmacy department, appreciated the prideful achievement that build a good reputation of the pharmacy department in knowledge development. She expected that the accomplishment might inspire students, especially pharmacy students and UMS students working hard to win and accomplish achievements. “I hope in short, there are various strong teams to continue the competitive tradition in international level. The Student Activity Unit of Indonesian Language and Literature (UKM Bahterasia) in Universitas Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung (Unmuh Babel) visited the morning news bureau of Babel Pos and a historian of Bangka Belitung, Datuk Akhmad Elvian, Wednesday (23/02). The agenda was held to commemorate 2022 International Mother Language Day. Elvian explained that Unmuh Babel students as prospective teachers need to internalize in persevering local heritage as an identity. “One of the local cultures we need to maintain is our Mother Tongue (local language) of Bangka Belitung that has become an endangered language. The rapid development in globalization results in the loss of the language existence of the Bangka Belitung language,” he said.

The Board Secretary of Regional House of Representatives (Setwan DPRD) Kota Pangkalpinang also mentioned that language extinction can be caused by first, the intervention of other languages and foreign languages, resulting in the deformation of dialect. Second, the extinction due to the obligation of official language used in public facilities shifts the local language in public schools to the Indonesian language. However, it was not regulated in policy and the local language should become an official language in the particular area. Moreover, the Unmuh Babel students will teach in schools to practice their teaching skills.

In the different meeting, the General Manager (GM) of Morning News Babel Pos, Faizal accompanied by the Marketing division, Iwan Subrata also shared their knowledge in journalism about the opportunities and challenges in the globalization era. He mentioned that in the digital era, hoaxes might spread massively. It can be a problem faced by the media society and government so the media have a great role in tackling the hoaxes. The mainstream media should serve as a company that provides professional mainstream sources and maintain their independence from various parties. UMMAT Appointed To Conduct Student Affairs Meeting of MHEIs

Student Affairs Forum of Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (Fosma PTMA) held National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) by the theme “Strengthening Development Model of Student Affairs to be MHEIs that Enlightening, Excellent and has Islamic Character”, in Jayakarta Senggigi Hotel, Lombok Barat, Thursday-Sunday (24-27/02).

Sixty-five Vice-Rectors for Student Affairs in all MHEIs attended the meeting. In his remarks, the Chairman of Fosma PTMA, Dr Gatot Sugiharto, SH MH mentioned the National Coordination Meeting aimed to consolidate and strengthen the development model of student affairs, especially for MHEIs in Indonesia. “Align with our theme, to strengthen the development model of Student Affairs to be MHEIs that enlightening, excellent and has Islamic character. InsyaAllah, on this occasion, we can learn from each other. We can share various development models in students, related to student dynamics, student organization development concept, and many other topics,” he said. All participants in the National Meeting of Fosma PTMA are leaders in student development programs that continually improve student achievements and inspirational places.

Dr H Arsyad Abd Gani MPd, Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Mataram (Ummat), explained that the National Meeting of Fosma PTMA would be a momentum to improve potency in developing students with Islamic character due to the different ways conducted by other private/state universities. “I always say that if the student or alumni from MHEIs have the same character with others, what is the difference between us and other universities with non-Islamic backgrounds. That’s why we should build MHEIs’ character. Therefore, this forum would be very strategic because developing students is not an easy way,” he said.

On the other hand, he also highly appreciated Fosma and Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (CHERD) to trust Ummat as Fosma PTMA National Meeting Host in 2022. “Although we are facing Covid-19 pandemic, alhamdulillah, Lombok, especially Mataram is in level 2 so we don’t have to be worried and afraid to be in Lombok,” he said.

Adam Jerusalem, the Vice-Secretary of CHERD, also appreciated Fosma PTMA. “It is outstanding, during the pandemic, we are still enthusiastic to enhance the institutional quality, so I hope it will result in something better, a positive result. UMY Achieves ISO 27001:2013 Certification

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) received certification from the Information System Agency (LSI) on Wednesday (23/02). The ISO 27001:2013 Certification has been achieved for their information security system. The certification submission was located in AR Fakhruddin A Building, UMY. The ISO 27001: 2013 is the latest icon of the certification series for ISO 2700 released since 2013.

ISO 27001 is an international standard related to the Information Security Management System (SMKI). The management system provides a general description of what an organization or agency should do to implement the information security system. It aimed to portray the information security concept up to 2024.

Dr Ir Wahyufi ST MT IPM, the Head of LSI UMY, explained that these networking security efforts support quality improvement and maintenance in UM Yogyakarta. “As a higher education institution, UMY continually maintains the implementation of information security. By this certification, we will keep elevating the quality of UMY in terms of information security system,” said Wahyudi, as reported on the UMY site.

To achieve the certification, UM Yogyakarta has prepared it for nearly a year. Wahyudi expects that with this ISO certification, the management of the information system would improve. “With the accomplishment of the latest ISO certification, I hope that the management of the information system will be better. Later on, I hope we can develop based on the ISO standardization,” he said.

FISIP UMSU Held International Conference ‘INCCLUSI’

The Faculty of Social and Political Science of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (FISIP UMSU) succeeded in conducting an online International Conference named INCCLUSI (International Conference on Communication, Policy, and Social Science) 2022, Tuesday (22/02).

Besides implementing the Tri Dharma (Three Values) of higher education institutions, the conference becomes a part of the 50th Anniversary commemoration series held every February. In his remarks, the Dean of FISIP UMSU, Dr. Arifin Saleh, MSP, explained that the conference becomes an internationalization of FISIP UMSU in managing Social Welfare with A Accreditation, Public Administration Science with A Accreditation, and Communication Science with Excellent Accreditation.

By the theme “Collaboration of Government, Civil Society, and Digital Communication for Sustainable Development Goals,” the conference was also attended by national and international speakers, including Dr. Rudianto, S.Sos, M.Si as the Vice-Rector III of UMSU; Prof Olle Törnquist from the University of Oslo, Norway; Dr. J. Nicolaas Warouw from the University of New South Wales, Canberra, Australia; Dr. Noppawan Phuengpha, MPA from Burapha University, Thailand, and Dr. Azhar Ibrahim Alwee from the National University of Singapore, Singapore.

Sahran Saputra, as the Committee Chief, explained that 550 participants attended the seminar, and 125 participants sent their papers for this conference. The papers have fulfilled the requirement to be published in Atlantis Press, an international proceeding and scientific journal in FISIP UMSU. Afterwards, the participants were divided into several classes to present their papers. Moderators from FISIP lecturers would guide the presentations in each category.

Muhammadiyah Institute for Zakat, Infaq, Sadaqah (LazisMu) UHAMKA held the procession of scholarship submissions on Monday (21/02). The online submission of the ‘Sang Surya’ Scholarship from LazisMu Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof DR HAMKA (UHAMKA) was disbursed to 100 students as beneficiaries. It was located in the Fourth Floor Hall of A Campus UHAMKA.

The Vice-Rector IV of Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof DR HAMKA, Bunyamin, appreciated the LazisMu UHAMKA scholarship program. It was the second scholarship disbursement after the submission in August 2021. ‘Sang Surya’ Scholarship from LazisMu UHAMKA aimed to financially support the accomplished students affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He also appreciated LazisMu for increasing the number of beneficiaries for 50 students. “Previously, it was only 50 grantees, but it increases for 100 grantees in total. We always expect that besides the quantity improvement, the quality will elevate. Later, it depends on the LazisMu effort to recruit donors from outside Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof DR HAMKA,” he said.

Afterwards, the Chairman of LazisMu UHAMKA, Nandi Rahman, mentioned infaq and sadaqah disbursement. In his remarks, Nandi Rahman explained the distribution had been conducted in various fields. The donors of LazisMu Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof DR HAMKA that contributed to the ‘Sang Surya’ scholarship were the lecturers and staff from Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof DR HAMKA. “Thank you for the donors that always participate in supporting others,” he concluded.

Eleven ITB Ahmad Dahlan Students Qualified for MSIB 2022

Eleven students of the Institute for Technology and Business Ahmad Dahlan (ITB Ahmad Dahlan) are qualified for the Internship and Certified Independent Studies Program (MSIB) of Independent Campus Year 2022 organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbud Ristek). They are eight students from Engineering and Design Faculty, Information Technology and  System Department, and three students from the Economic and Business Faculty, Management and Accountancy program.

Each student follows the Internship and Certified Independent Studies Program through various organizing partners in PT Syncore Indonesia, PT Presentologics, PT Lentera Bangsa Benderang, PT Ruang Raya Indonesia and Universitas Terbuka. Dr Pitri Yandri, MSi, as the Head of Institute for Independent Learning-Independent Campus Service (LLMBKM) ITB Ahmad Dahlan explained that by following the MSIB program, the students would experience the work duties and gain the recognition of 20 credit units. “The extra point from this internship and independent studies program academically is the student will gain recognition of 20 credit units. It is regulated by the Ministry of Education and the conversion to certain subjects depends on each department,” said Yandri.

Furthermore, Yandri mentioned the MSIB Program as similar to studying in class; however, it would be directly delivered in companies based on each company’s hard-skill and soft-skill development. Experts would assist the students and evaluate the progress that can be seen by their supervisors on campus. “Later, at the end of the program, students can take a certification test and receive their certificate of competence. Each company will direct them there. Another benefit is in the initial socialization, the Ministry mentioned that the company will recruit 76 percent students that have achievements,” he said.

The qualification of eleven students from ITB Ahmad Dahlan in the MSIB Program of Independent Campus was expected to encourage other students in ITB Ahmad Dahlan to follow their seniors. It is because the Independent Learning-Independent Campus (MBKM) program can elevate the rank of students and institutions. “We hope that our students will actively participate in the following MBKM program. It is beneficial for them to add values outside academic skills because students’ competence should meet their needs. Link and match are not only in industrial occupations and the work sector, but also it is required in the future rapid development,”

Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UM Purworejo) launched the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Forum and the Boards Inauguration in Secang on Wednesday (02/02). UM Purworejo facilitated the agenda through Student Study Service-Thematic (KKN-T) in Secang Village. Located in Secang, the agenda aimed to establish MSME Forum as a place to provide guidelines and direction for MSME owners to elevate their business.

On this occasion, the Village Head of Secang, Agus Prabawa Setyabudi SH; the KKN-T supervisors of UM Purworejo, Dedi Runanto; District Head of Ngombol, Nurfiana SSTP MM; MSME Chief of Ngombol district, Kuntaufik Ali; MSME Chief of Purworejo regency, Dr Hesti Respatiningsih SE MPar, and all MSME Forum members of Secang. The procession started with slicing the top of tumpeng (a yellow rice platter in the shape of an inverted cone) and continued by signing the MSME Forum boards decree. It is named BOESTAB in short of Bisaning Oerip Seko Tangan Ati lan Budi (we can live from our hands, heart, and behaviour).

“We expect that the MSME Forum can strengthen the Secang economic conditions. More establishment of MSME can support the village’s economic growth,” said Nurfiana. She also introduced several products of MSME, including fashion clothing, cakes, salted egg, banana crispy, and many other business units. The products are also served in MSME Product Bazaar. She appreciated the students that they could exhibit various village potencies by their creativity.

MSME Forum of Secang became the first village forum in Ngombol district. There are three more forums placed in three different areas of Purworejo Regency, which comprises Kandregan village in Banyan district; Borokulon village in Banyuurip district; and Loano district. The establishment in Secang increases the number of forums in Purworejo. The MSME Forum Launching and Boards Inauguration ran well and received a positive response due to the full-motivated womenpreneurs of BOESTAB and KKN-T students UM Purworejo.

UM Surabaya Socialized Sexual Violence Prevention Program

Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya) discussed a procedure of sexual violence treatment on Saturday (19/02). The explanation was delivered by the Institute for Gender Studies (LKG) UM Surabaya. Mas’ulah, the Head of LKG UM Surabaya, responded to the probability of sexual violence on campus that has power relation in structural, administrative, and academic positions.

Mas’ulah opened her presentation by stating the discussion background is the finding of inequality in power relations between the perpetrators and victims in sexual violence cases. “The locus, focus, and mode of sexual violence in universities and any other educational institutions are different from other places. The tendency shows that sexual perpetrators are not uneducated, but they also have power in various forms and levels,” he said on the UM Surabaya site.

Furthermore, the prevention steps by UM Surabaya to stop the sexual harassment on campus comprise dual actions, including anticipation and mitigation. First, establishing a Task Force for Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment in Higher Education Institutions. The Task Force would also serve as a follow-up action to the Regulation of the Indonesia Minister of Education and Culture, Research and Technology No 30 of 2021. Second, to ensure the perpetrators would have an assertive process and get sanctions based on the law.

She also emphasized the importance of strengthening moral values, including religious, cultural, and social values. She also mentioned the preventive acts to provide sex education. This education would include understanding sexual harassment, assault, and how to report a sexually violent crime.
