The Public Health Faculty of Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) held a Workshop for Public Health Laboratory Development, Friday (10/02). Located in the Fourth Floor of Unimus Integrated Health Laboratory, the workshop was followed by all management in Health Laboratories, including Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Work Safety and Health, Health Promotion, Reproduction Health, and Entomology Research.
Dr Sayono, SKM, MKes (Epid), the Dean of Public Health mentioned that the workshop aimed to produce excellent services in Public Health Laboratory. The laboratory is involved in a priority program to implement the Faculty’s vision, improve the graduates’ competency, and become a medium to develop science through various research. “On the other hand, the laboratory also becomes an income generating unit for the faculty,” he added. In her remarks, Dr Rahayu Astuti, M.Kes as the Head of Public Health study program explained the urgency of the laboratory in the learning process. The students should develop their soft skills in the laboratory instead to earn knowledge as a theory. These soft skills will be developed more in practical methods in the laboratory.
The Public Health Faculty continued to improve the role of campus laboratories as in public health laboratories in a wider perspective. In the future, the laboratory will be developed not only for the Public Health student, but also comprehensively developed for sports as an important aspect in public health. The faculty currently has three study programs, including the Public Health, Sports Education, and the Graduate Program of Public Health that continuously improve health status in broader communities.
