UM Papua Student Orientation Exposes Urgency of Student Digital Competency

Welcoming the new academic year, Universitas Muhammadiyah Papua (UM Papua) held the new student orientation on Monday-Tuesday (29-30/08). The offline program called the New Student Orientation for Campus Life (PKKMB) in 2022/2023 was placed in the UM Papua Hall. With the theme “To Prepare The Prominent Students in Big Data and Internet of Things era”, 260 freshmen followed earnestly.

In the opening ceremony, the Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs, Dr. Indah Sulistiani, S.E., M.I.Kom.; the Vice Rector II for Financial Affairs, Dr. Muhammad Nur Jaya M.Si; the Vice Rector III for Student Affairs, Dr. Syarifuddin M.K.Kom; the lecturers; education personnel; Student Executive Board (BEM) delegations; and the Commissariat Board of Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM) UM Papua delegations attended on the Hall. The orientation started from 09.00 WIT to 17.00 WIT. As a master of ceremony, Reski Irianti Syarmi led the orientation.

Similar to the previous PKKMB, the incoming students should bring cleaning supplies and wear black-and-white uniforms on the first day and PKKMB uniforms on the second day. Besides from the campus, the Army’s Regional Military Commands (Kodam) XVII/Cenderawasih, National Narcotics Boards (BNN) in Papua Province, Central Information Commission (KIP) Papua, and General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Jayapura also attended.

Dr. Indah Sulistiani SE, M.I.Kom, the Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs mentioned the purpose of the PKKMB to learn more about the campus life that would be different from high school. The students should understand the regulations on campus and various important general knowledge. “So, we organize PKKMB or the new student orientation to introduce the campus life for the new students. We organize on campus to identify important things, especially academic affairs. So it should broaden the student’s horizon as a new member of the university,” she said.
