UM Surabaya Students Bagged International Gold Medal

UM Surabaya Students, Damara Oky, Insira Yumna, Indah Kamula, and Faishal Fahmi from the Medical Science Faculty developed an application to prevent stunting by suppressing the stunting rate by targeting a high-risk group. The application named Aikko targets all mothers -expectant mothers, breastfeeding mothers, and mothers with toddlers. Furthermore, the application would continuously give information related to the child’s growth and development.

The Aikko application success brought the four students of UM Surabaya to win a gold medal. The medal they received in an innovation competition of 1 Idea 1 World organized by the Turkish Investors Association (TUMMIAD) and World Invention Intellectual Property Association (WIIPA) in Istanbul, Turkiye, in the middle of May. The team beat other students from 22 different countries through innovation to prevent stunting.

“The users of Aikko can simply fill a form to receive the child’s growth and development information,” said a lecturer of the Medical Science Faculty and a paediatrician, Gina Noor Dijalilah, who became the team supervisor. Gina also had an opportunity as a panellist speaker to represent Indonesia on this occasion. She presented the challenges in future innovation with various supervisors from Africa, Turkiye, and Iran.

This innovation gained a prideful comment from the Vice-Rector III, Ma’ruf Sya’ban. “The innovation can enhance UM Surabaya’s reputation internationally. I hope it can be a motivation for other lecturers and students to keep innovating and working,” he said. [] UM Surabaya / CHERD
