Communication and Islamic Broadcasting (KPI) Students, Universitas Muhammadiyah Mataram (UMMAT) was appointed to undergo Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA). The IISMA is one Independent Campus program by the Indonesia Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud RI). The program provided opportunities for the students to study in 1 semester in various universities worldwide. Romi Setiawan, the 4th-semester student in KPI, was appointed to be the IISMA awardee. Announced at the beginning of June 2021, as reported on UMMAT news on Wednesday (23/06), Romi accomplished several steps and became one of the students that would join the IISMA program.
Romi Setiawan had an opportunity to follow the program in Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). He explained that the willingness to experience the academic atmosphere abroad motivated him to follow the program. “To learn abroad has been my dream for a long time. Alhamdulillah, I have got this chance to experience the education system there because it has to be different,” he said.
Moreover, he selected USM due to the similar study program he was carrying out, and it would make him aware of the differences between the two universities. Besides learning, Romi would also follow Culture Exchange to represent Indonesian culture, especially Lombok culture.
Asbah MHum, the Head of Collaboration division, appreciated the Kemdikbud program and was grateful that one UMMAT student passed. He also prompted the student to create good international relations and expected that a lot of students would follow the same program in the future.
“Because it is a priceless experience, I expect that in the future, a lot of students can follow the same program. Then, for the selected student, I hope he can create networks there to introduce culture. Don’t forget to maintain the good name of UMMAT,” he said.
