Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) hosted a National Coordination Meeting of Muhammadiyah – ‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs) in Central Java. The meeting was located in the Eighth Floor Hall, Integrated Building (GKB) II on Saturday (27/08). Prof. Lincolin Arsyad, M.Sc., Ph.D., the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education Research and Development (CHERD) attended as a speaker, accompanied by the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Province Board (PWM) Central Java, Dr. H. Tafsir, M.Ag.; the Head of Research and Development for MHEIs in PWM; the Rector of UMS, UNIMUS, UMP, UMKU, and UNIMUGO, also the Chairman of STAIM Blora.
By raising the theme “Mapping and Development of MHEIs in Central Java towards Excellent and World-class University”, it aimed to coordinate the related policies of higher education institutions, strengthen and initiate business incubators, coordinate the promotion and improvement of the total number of students, coordinate the acceleration of students’ graduation and their qualities, and strengthen MHEIs’ relationship, especially in Central Java. “The background of this meeting is due to Muhammadiyah CHERD’s concern in the high intention of Muhammadiyah Regional Board to establish a new higher education institution in each region, so it requires a coordinating meeting, like nowadays,” said Dr. Tafsir when he delivered his remarks. In a written statement, Dr. Tafsir also urged the improvement of education in Indonesia through Muhammadiyah.
Currently, from the total number of MHEIs that have reached 171 institutions, 26 institutions were located in Central Java. So it was expected that through this national meeting, could produce excellent quality and establish the Rector Forum of MHEIs in Central Java.
