The lecturers’ team of Universitas Muhammadiyah Bulukumba (UM Bulukumba) participated in the Community Service Program (PKM) to disseminate sugar production technology in Tamalaju subdistrict, South Sulawesi. The program received National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) funding in 2021. The technology dissemination was applied in the palm-sugar production technology to have a quality and improved production process.

Andi Rosdiana, Bontorannu Village Head, Friday (15/10), said that the training activity could help the community produce sugar more creatively. “The sugar production may compete with sugar production in the other area. This sugar production technology can help Bontorannu village increase production, and Bontorannu village can be a palm sugar production center,” Andi said.

The knowledge and skills improvement of the community in utilizing the technology to increase palm sugar production and quality, especially the packaging and marketing technique development, was the output that was hoped in the community service program. Moreover, it was expected that the village government could collaborate with the business partner on the production instrument procurement. The technology dissemination also might help the community to increase the household income. “The process of this dissemination implementation will continue by the periodic assistance from UMB Community Service Program and Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM),” Jihad Talib, Head of LPPM UM Bulukumba, said. Therefore, the business partner and community feedback would be helpful for the improvement of technology dissemination.
