Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) well-known as the “Global Youth” (Muda Mendunia) campus, once again, achieved International recognition. In its 40th year, UMY has accomplished International awards in research and publication. It is in line with the UMY milestone as Research Excellence University in 2020-2025. According to QS World University Rankings: Asia 2022, UMY succeeded in increasing the ranking score by 5 per cent and became 451-500 top universities in Asia. QS World University Rankings is a reputable International institution that ranks universities worldwide.
The rector of UM Yogyakarta, Dr Ir Gunawan Budiyanto MP, IPM, admitted that UM Yogyakarta achievement in QS World University Rankings: Asia 2022 was in line with the UM Yogyakarta milestone as Research Excellence University in 2020-2025. “UMY continues to be committed and strives to strengthen the research collaboration at home and overseas to reach the university excellence and create the world-class innovations,” he concluded as reported on the UMY site, Tuesday (2/11).
Dr Mega Hidayati, SAg, SS, MA, the Head of Organizational Development, UMY Planning and Development Board, explained the UMY improvement of the score was in the aspect of International Research Network, International faculty, Inbound and Outbound Exchange. “In this year, UM Yogyakarta increased the ranking score by 5 percent compared to previous year,” he said.
During the pandemic, UMY also conducted blended learning, which combined the online and offline lectures. One hundred eighty foreign professors who teach at UMY from various partner universities. UM Yogyakarta also facilitated the students’ mobility at the International level, so the quantity inclined from year to year. This year, for almost 1000 International mobility, both in inbound and outbound exchange. The international students who learn in UM Yogyakarta followed the student exchange program in partnership with universities from 20 nations worldwide.
Another international achievement of UM Yogyakarta is over 40% scientific publication in the reputable journal in the last five years, resulting from collaboration with foreign partners. “The increase happens because UM Yogyakarta was optimizing the online program amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Until now, the request to collaborate from foreign universities keep growing,” Mega said.
