UMRI and Regional Police Reopen The Mass Vaccination

Universitas Muhammadiyah Riau (UMRI) collaborated with Riau Regional Police to conduct mass vaccination placed in Umri Campus yard, Tuanku Tambusai Ujung street, Pekanbaru, Thursday (03/02). Hundreds of participants, including lecturers, staff, students, and the public community followed the vaccination.

The Head of Regional Police, Irjen Pol Muhammad Iqbal SIK MH explained that they continued to accelerate the vaccination program. “Because several communities should escalate the vaccination,” said Irjen M Iqbal. He mentioned that Omicron variant cases are currently increasing in Riau Province and Pekanbaru City. Irjen M Iqbal, the Former Head of the Public Relation Division of Indonesia National Police, explained that while Riau cases are less than other regions, we should conduct two anticipations, such as tightening health protocol and vaccination program. “Alhamdulillah, we already have over 87 percent that almost reaches 90 percent of the first dose vaccination. In addition, the second dose reached 60 percent with the elderly in 60 percent. It means that we are not at the lowest level, but we can not easily satisfy. Because from 70 percent of herd immunity in Indonesia, the 7 percent involved in the Riau region,” he said.

Irjen Pol Muhammad Iqbal SIK MH also highlighted many people in Riau did not receive the vaccination yet. “Therefore, I encourage every stakeholder, all Regents, Mayors, the Heads of Departmental Police, Military Districts, and all communities to escalate the vaccination program,” he expected. Moreover, the Rector of Umri, Dr. H Saidul Amin MA mentioned that Muhammadiyah commits to providing vaccination access in Indonesia. “Alhamdulillah, today, we collaborate with Riau Regional Police for vaccination. This great collaborative work between the Higher Education Institutions and law-enforcement agencies is inextricable because we should help and support each other,” said the Rector of Umri.

The Rector of Umri expected that the Covid-19 outbreak and Omicron passed sooner. The Chief of Committee of the Mass Vaccination Umri, Jayus SSos MIKom, explained that it is the third time that Riau Regional Police have collaborated with Umri and supported governmental programs in vaccination. “Riau Regional Police have prepared 1500 doses for vaccination participants that involve in the first, second, and booster doses. The types of vaccines including Coronavac, Pfizer, Moderna, Astrazeneca for lecturers, staffs, students, and public communities,” Jayus explained.
