UMSi Student Alliance Distributed Aid for Luwu Disaster Victims

Universitas Muhammadiyah Sinjai (UMSi) Student Alliance delivered assistance for the disaster victims in Luwu. The other agencies in UMSi also provided the aid, including Disaster Management Agency (LPB) and Search and Rescue (SAR), and Muhammadiyah Institute for Zakat, Infaq, Sadaqah (LazisMu). This agenda was held last Tuesday (12/10). 

On the first of October, the high rainfall caused the flood and landslide in Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi. As reported in iNews Sulsel, the Regional Agency for Disaster Management (BPBD) of Luwu Regency explained that dozens of families have been evacuated. BPBD Sulsel noted the landslide buried one house while a hundred families have been isolated in Ilan Batu village. In Ilan Batu Uru village, forty families were isolated; meanwhile, twenty-five families were isolated in Lempe village.

The UMSi Daily Advisory Board, Vice-Rector I, Vice-rector III, and academic civitas attended the aid distribution. It was located in the UMSi campus yard. In the UMSi Student Alliance, the associations included BEM UMsi, HIMILP, HUMANISTIK, HIMAGROTEK, KSR PMI UNIT 102 UMSi, and Mechanical Design Engineering Student. The donation collected in approximately three days counted IDR 5,600,000.

The head of LPB and SAR, Muhlis Hajar Adiputra S.Sos MSi, hoped that the aid distribution could benefit the disaster victims, although it was a little assistance. “After we arrive at the disaster recovery site, we will try to provide recovery effort. Then, we will deliver the aid to Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC),” he said, as reported in the official UMSi site.
