UMY Lecturers Innovation: Jogjaloop Application Creates Inclusive City

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) lecturers in collaboration with e-Governance and Sustainability Institute (ESI) Thailand succeeded in creating an application ‘JogjaLoop’ as an integrated system of public transportation information Android and IoS based. The two lecturers, namely Eko Priyo Purnomo, S.IP. M.Si., M.Res., Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. Achmad Nurmandi M.Sc. are also researchers in Jusuf Kalla School Government (JKSG) UMY.

The application aims to provide ease to tourists or students who have no private vehicle in Yogyakarta. “Through the application, it is easier for users to find out and use transportation services in Yogyakarta city,” Eko concluded.

JogjaLoop also helps the user discover the movement point of transportation mode, including the bus and its stop in Yogyakarta. The public transportation needs should be supported by an application to make the user easier in finding suitable transportation. Moreover, Eko also explained that the project’s purpose is to publish two international journals and an urban transportation model prototype that is smart and inclusive.

As reported on UMY official website (2/9), Nurmandi mentioned that urban people could be complex people if they learn to live with strangers, deal with diversities, enter new experiences and unknown interests in life. “Yogyakarta and Khon Kaen are the big cities with some urban problems related to inclusiveness such as congestion and the unavailability of inclusive urban transportation. The concept or idea of an inclusive city may reduce poverty, encourage economic growth, and increase the city’s internal cohesion,” said the UMY Vice-Rector for Cooperation and International Affairs.
