Universitas Muhammadiyah Palu (Unismuh Palu) students had finished their Field Practical Programme (PBL) on Wednesday (02/02). The program has been conducted in Pombewe village for 22 days since 12 January. The Public Health Faculty (FKM) Unismuh Palu students have educated the local community about health issues to social services.
The program targeted people in general and the students nearby with various activities. It includes learning about composting, elderly counseling services, and educating about stunting. In MA Al-Khairat (high school), they presented Clean and Healthy Life Behaviour (PHBS), drugs, and reproductive health.
The Vice-Dean I of FKM Unismuh Palu, Sudirman, S.KM., M.Kes explained that the PBL becomes students learning process in acquiring professional abilities in public health issues to implement specific professional capabilities in health services. Besides being a learning process, it also becomes a requirement of each FKM student. He also mentioned that students could conduct public health diagnoses, for instance, to recognize, formulate, and arrange a priority in various health problems.
They are also required to develop treatment programs for health problems which promotive and preventive. They need to act as middle managers to become an executive, manager, educator, and researcher. It applies a suitable approach to communities and the right collaborative skills in the multidiscipline areas.
“It is a compulsory program for each student in Public Health Department. It is expected that the activity would encourage students to be professionals in public health services and offer beneficial activities for local communities,” said Sudirman, Wednesday (02/02).
