UMSU Welcomes a Visit of The US Cultural Attaché

Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) is actively expanding its international collaboration. On Sunday, (4/12) yesterday, UMSU welcomed a visit from the US Cultural Attaché represented by Emily Yasmin Noris. According to Vice Chancellor III, Dr Rudianto, this visit was special because UMSU could obtain a lot of information about cooperation in America. Previously, UMSU had collaborated with the US parties including the presence of nativedeen and RELO (Regional English Language Office) who became guest lecturers at UMSU.

“America is a country with the best education management in the world. UMSU must take advantage of this to learn and work together,” said Rudianto. On the other hand, Rudianto said that UMSU also can provide America with a comprehensive picture of Indonesia’s diverse culture. Rudianto also appreciated that UM Sumatra Utara had been involved in the US-Asean University Connective Initiative Program. He hoped that the collaboration that will be carried out later becomes an internationalization program for UM Sumatra Utara in the future. “Another important part is that the collaboration between UMSU and America can be an acculturation so it doesn’t have to be related to research,” explained Rudianto.

Emily Yasmin also gave her appreciation when she visited UMSU. She received a lot of information about the North Sumatra culture during the visit. She also emphasized that the United States opens opportunities and good cooperation between America and Indonesia, especially in education and culture. For this opportunity, Emily mentioned various information that can also be accessed on various social media platforms and the official website of the United States Embassy. “I also hope that the visit to UM Sumatra Utara can strengthen the active cooperation between Indonesia and the United States,” she explained. The Cultural Attaché’s visit was marked by a discussion in the podcast room and the giving of souvenirs of ulos, the traditional Tenun fabric of the Batak people of North Sumatra.

UMY Wins Top 10 Highest Intellectual Property Rights

A prideful achievement was again obtained by Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY). This ‘Global Youth’ Campus succeeded in receiving an award from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in the Higher Education category with the TOP 10 highest Intellectual Property Rights applications in Indonesia this year. The announcement and award was handed over directly by the Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna H. Laoly received by Ir Agus Jamal MEng IPM as Head of the Research and Innovation Institute (LRI) at the Bidakara Hotel Jakarta, Monday (21/11) in the Roving Seminar of Intellectual Property Rights.

To appreciate this achievement, Prof. Dr Dyah Mutiarin, the Head of the UMY Research and Innovation Institute (LRI) said that this award was extremely important in UMY’s progress and intellectual property. “Of course, this achievement can increase campus creativity in enhancing intellectual property that will produce a positive impact on the progress of the nation,” she hoped.

Dyah added that these achievements were also in line with the vision and mission of UMY in realizing a Research Excellence University. Therefore, the indicators are required, including the amount of research, and the number of research publications with international and national reputations, as well as innovation, which innovation is closely related to intellectual property. She also hoped that the achievement can intensify UMY’s efforts in providing scientific contributions as well as technological innovation. “This is one of many encouragements for UMY’s contribution to providing technology innovation and other scientific innovations to society,” she concluded.

The Institute of Islamic Studies Muhammadiyah (IAIM) Sinjai received a visitation for the University Transformation in the Senate Room. The visitation was from the Directorate General of Islamic Education, Ministry of Religion who attended in IAIM through the Assistance Team of Field Assessment (AL) to transform an Institute to be a University.

The team consisted of Dr. Thobib Al Asyhar, Head of Sub-Directorate of Institutions and Cooperation; Dr. A Rafiq Zainul Mun’im MFilI, Sub-coordinator of Private Institutional Development; Ahmad Mahfud Arsyad MAg, Sub-coordinator of Institutional Quality Assurance; and Farhatin Ladia SSos MSi, Sub-coordinator of State Institutional Development. Also attending on this occasion, the Chancellor of IAIM Sinjai, Dr. Firdaus MAg; Vice Chancellor I; then, Vice Chancellor II; Vice Chancellor III; Postgraduate Director; the Deans of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty, Ushuluddin and Islamic Communication Faculty, and Islamic Economy and Law; the Head and Secretary of Study Program; the Chairmen/women of Bureau and Institutes.

Furthermore, the Head of the Daily Advisory Board (BPH) IAIM Sinjai, Drs H Zainuddin Fatbang mentioned the history of IAIM Sinjai campus. “In 1976, we obtained the operational permit from the Ministry of Religious Affairs,” he said. LRI UMS Displays Herbal Supplement For Covid-19 Treatments

Research and Innovation Institute of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (LRI UMS) sent four research results from the UMS research team to follow the 2022 MITE Expo in the series of Muktamar agendas. One of the research was from Prof. Dr. Muhtadi, M.Si who examined the Herbal Supplement from developing drugs as the medical treatment for Covid-19.

The innovation product was synergized with the standard medical drugs from the Ministry of Health or WHO. Muhtadi explained the research was conducted due to the rise in the death rate of Covid-19 patiences. The research team from Pharmacy department UMS did some research on herbal medicine formulation with limited number of volunteers to support communities and government to tackle the pandemic. “Because it is an emergency, the formulation of herbal medicine as supplement for Covid-19 medication have supported numerous patiences and alhamdulillah, it can be treated faster,” Prof. Muhtadi said, Tuesday (29/11).

Prof. Muhtadi also mentioned that to prevent and treat the Covid-19 patiences, people can use herbal medicine to enhance immunity (imunomodulator) and anti-virus. In addition, he also explained the herbal ingredients were readily available in our environment.

The research and technology expo held in Muktamar became a socialization of the research result. “In the MITE expo of Muktamar, we can use this opportunity to socialize and promote the innovative product of herbal supplements for Covid-19 treatment. We hope it can be beneficial for the broader communities in Indonesia,” Muhtadi said.

He also mentioned that the research and innovation were not only advantageous qualitatively to theoretical science, but also can be implemented to public health and welfare.

Seven UMPO Tapak Suci Athletes Are Ready to Welcome Musywil Muhammadiyah

Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo (UMPO) athletes joined the Regional Board invitation (Invitasi Pimda) 023 from last Saturday (26/11) to Wednesday (30/11). The Regional Board invitation was held to welcome the 16th Provincial Congress (Musywil) of Muhammadiyah East Java that will be organized on 24-25 December 2022.

“Tapak Suci UM Ponorogo must lead, must be champion!”, they shout to encourage themselves as Student Activity Unit (UKM) Tapak Suci UM Ponorogo.

One of the UKM Tapak Suci Board, Iqbal Nafi Nur Ikhram mentioned in this competition, UMPO sent seven athletes. The fighters prepared their various fighting styles in the art category that includes national styles of Tapak Suci and Indonesia Pencak Silat Federation (IPSI), and all match categories. To give the best performance, Iqbal and his athlete team took two months of preparation. “Therefore, we hope we can win and be the UMPO’s pride,” he said.

Furthermore, he also mentioned his hope to be the Overall Champion. “Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, we can win the overall championship. We hope we can show the best shot for our UKM, and we wish to maintain the good name of Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo,” he added.

A total of 497 athletes from various contingents in Madiun Residency competed to welcome the 16th Musywil of Muhammadiyah East Java. Diploma-3 Program of Medical Laboratory Technology (TLM) of Poltekkes Muh Makassar (the Health Polytechnique Muhammadiyah Makassar) held the Oath-taking Ceremony and Gathering in Gammara Hotel, Makassar on Thursday (24/11). It was attended by all Polytechnique leaders, academic civitas, alumni, students, and their relatives.

The Head of Medical Laboratory Technology mentioned that they officially graduated 100% of their 117 students. “Alhamdulillah, this year, Poltekkes Muh Makassar has received the Permit for Diploma-4 Medical Laboratory Technology establishment. InsyaAllah, in 2023, we will be ready to open admission,” he added.

Dr KH Mustari Bosrah MAg, the Chairman of the Daily Advisory Board, highly appreciated all graduate parents and relatives for their support in entrusting Poltekkes Muh Makassar as their children’s campus. “I want you, my students, to prepare yourselves for knowledge and skills, regardless of religion, ethnicity, and nationality,” he said.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) RI, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy M.A.P. visited UMGO and held an audience with academic civitas of Universitas Muhammadiyah Gorontalo (UMGO). The Minister team received a warm welcome from the Rector of UMGO, Prof Dr. Abd Kadim Masaong, MPd with UMGO academic civitas and students in David Bobihoe Akib Indoor Building of UM Gorontalo, Friday (25/11).

In his remarks, Prof Kadim Masaong mentioned that personally and on behalf of the institution highly appreciated the Menko PMK due to his willingness to meet all academic civitas of UMGO.

UM Gorontalo currently has five faculties and 21 study programs with thousands of students. UMGO had prominent programs, familiarly known as the four-month Capacity and Character Building of Freshmen (PPKKMB) since 2021 full in the dormitory for new students. The third batch in 2022 was integrated from the Independent Learning Independent Student (MBKM) which is similar to taking 20 Credit Hours,” he said.

The Rector continued as an Islamic campus, the PPKKMB aimed to implement the tagline of UMGO. “To have a strong faith, knowledge, good character, and great soft skills,” he said. Kadim highlighted that the four elements were in line to result in qualified graduates as outputs, and InsyaAllah it will be beneficial for religion, nation, and the communities nearby,” he added.

Furthermore, in front of hundreds of freshmen, Prof Muhadjir expressed his pride to see the rapid development of UM Gorontalo. “For the dormitory program (PPKKMB), I support the program that has been integrated into the MBKM, it is really good. Especially the launching of student dormitories or rusunawa. I still remember it was inaugurated by President Jokowi and I had accompanied him and many other ministers. I hope UMGO will establish other dormitories,” he hoped.

The former minister of education also asked the students to keep learning and to keep preparing and adapting to the rapid information technology development due to the high probability in the working world. “The students should understand and implement the Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity (VUCA). Where the future working world will face an unstable transformation with high probability and complex complications that have disrupted us. Therefore, we should prepare ourselves to face the industrial world ahead,” he said.

Lastly, he also highlighted the 5C tradition for the students. The 5C tradition can encourage students to be future leaders. “First, the students should have critical thinking. Second, communication skills, and third, collaboration. Fourth, creativity to create a breakthrough, and fifth, confidence. You can prepare for your first four months in the dormitory to organize discussion forums to think critically and create varied soft skills including writing, speaking, and mastering the foreign language,” he concluded.

After the meeting, the Minister had dinner and held an audience with the Heads of the Bureau, the Deans, and the Head of Departments. Also attending the gathering, the Rector of UM Gorontalo, Prof. Dr. Abd. Kadim Masaong, M.Pd., the Coordinating Minister of PMK, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, M.A.P., the Vice Rector II, Dr. Salahudin Pakaya, the Vice Rector III, Dr. Apris Ara Tilome, the Head of General Affairs and Finance, Ramlah Alkatiri, M.Si., academic civitas, and dormitory students.

Ricky Nur Huda, the Information Technology department, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Muhammadiyah Palangkaraya (UMPR) won third place in Taekwondo at the 2022 National Student Sports Week (POMNAS). The POMNAS is a prestigious tournament in higher education in both private and state universities. The 17th POMNAS in 2022 would be held from 17 to 26 November 2022 at Universitas Negeri Padang, West Sumatera.

The POMNAS has various competitions from varied sports branches, one of them being Taekwondo. “For Taekwondo, it was held on Sunday (20/11),” Ricky said in a statement.

According to him, he has been through a long preparation to face the 2022 POMNAS. “Because I should prepare everything optimally, including practicing to build my physical stamina,” he said. Ricky was proud of his achievement to prove his hard work paid off.

“Thank you to all academic civitas in Universitas Muhammadiyah Palangkaraya who support me, with moral and material support. And for the cheers who boost my confidence and motivation,” he said.

Dr. Sonedi, M.Pd, the UMPR Rector also appreciated Ricky’s achievement. “Although he comes from outside Indonesia, Ricky was successful in mastering the martial arts and won third place in the 17th POMNAS. This achievement is something to be proud of for UMPR,” he said.

On this occasion, 2.985 athletes from 408 higher education institutions competed in the POMNAS which was held at Universitas Negeri Padang. The POMNAS also raised the theme “To Create Excellent Students towards Golden Indonesia” with the motto “Magnificent, Friendly, and Respectful”. As reported by the Pers Conference of the Ministry of Education, Research, and Technology, the POMNAS participants were the representatives of 34 Provincial Boards of the Indonesian Student Sports Association in Indonesia.

The plenary session that was conducted in Edutorium Building, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta attended by all Muktamar participants throughout Indonesia, Sunday (20/11). The 13 Board members had been announced by the Election Commission, Dahlan Rais.

Postgraduate Lecturers of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya) organized the activation assistant of Google Scholar citation in improving the capacity of postgraduate lecturers to publish scientific works on a national and international scale.

The postgraduate program is committed to supporting the acceleration program of excellent accreditation of UM Surabaya in 2023.

Located on the 9th floor of the Attauhid Tower building, UM Surabaya, it was attended by 20 lecturers. Also attending on this occasion, Prof Abd Hadi and Dr. Sholikhul Huda, M.Fil.I, the Director and Secretary of the Postgraduate program. Head and Secretary of Indonesian Language and Literature department, Dr. Ali Nuke and R Panji Hermoyo, M.Pd; Head and Secretary of Sharia Economics department, Dr. Isma Swadjaja, M.EI, and Muerida Isnawati, MH; the Head and Secretary of Islamic Studies, Dr. Arfan Muammar, M.Pd.I and Dr Fazlurrahman Hadi, M.Pd.I also attended the program. On this occasion, Dr. Mudakir, M. Kep opened the workshop by delivering remarks.

Furthermore, Dr. Sholikhul Huda, M.Fil.I, the Secretary of the Postgraduate program representing the Director mentioned that it becomes a part of the Postgraduate program to elevate the academic capacity and scientific publication of the postgraduate lecturers. So the development target of the Postgraduate program as the Social Humanities center and research center can be established,” he said on Thursday (17/11).

On the other hand, Dr. Mudakir, M.Kep highly appreciated the program. “I appreciate the Google Scholar assistant from the Postgraduate program because it will support the improvement of UM Surabaya Webometrics and will affect the postgraduate program where their scientific works will be an educational reference on a national and international scale”.
