UMGO Lecturers Inauguration as Gorontalo Healthy Regency Forum Members

Universitas Muhammadiyah Gorontalo (UMGO) lecturers attended the inauguration of the Healthy Regency Forum (FKKS), Wednesday (14/09). The newly inaugurated FKKS Gorontalo was for the two years ahead, in the 2022-2024 period. On this occasion, the Gorontalo Regent, Nelson Pomalingo inaugurated the FKKS members. There was also a discussion of stunting at the regional level in Orasawa Restaurant, Limboto.

The UMGO lectures recently inaugurated were Dr. Talha Dangkua as the Vice-Chairman; Ns Andi Akifa Sudirman MKep, the Secretary; Ns Dewi Modjo MKep, the Treasurer; and Ns Harismayanti MKep, Ns Ani Retni MKep, and Ns Sofiyah Tri Indriyaningsih MKep as the members.

The Regent Nelson Pomalingo after the inauguration expressed his expectation. “I hope Gorontalo Healthy Regency Forum can elevate the coordination, communication, and collaboration in healthcare services. Moreover, the forum will also become education and advocacy in healthy regency realization, including acceleration to reduce stunting, child and maternal mortality, and tuberculosis prevalence,” he said.

In an interview, Andi Akifa Sudirman MKep, the Secretary of FKKS, mentioned that the Nursery Science study program involved lecturers in child care and maternity department. Because, the forum was expected to be a medium to implement the Four Values (Catur Dharma) of Higher Education Institutions, especially in community services.

“We hope that we can participate in finding the solutions for varied health issues. For example, stunting, and child and maternal mortality. We will also contribute to the healthcare improvement, especially in Gorontalo regency towards a healthy and independent regency,” she hoped. The Deputy of Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Regional Government Organization boards, sub-district heads in Gorontalo, academician from UNG attended the inauguration ceremony.

The Universitas Muhammadiyah Riau (UMRI) Campus Hall was filled by 2,377 new students for the 2022 Student Orientation for Campus Life (PKKMB) on Sunday (18/09). The program that raised the theme “Do Your Best, You Are The Best!” was attended by the Vice-Governor of Riau, Brigadier General (Ret.) H Edy Afrizal Natar Nasution SIP.

“Dream big and consider the decision that you choose right now. Do your best to achieve the best thing and the best version of your dreams. It is similar to the current theme, ‘do your best,” Edy Natar said when delivering his remarks in front of UMRI Freshmen.

Edy continued that UMRI students were the chosen ones who have a greater opportunity to improve themselves to support the nations, country, and Riau province, particularly.

Edy also explained that Riau government provides special attention to enhancing the education sector through various scholarships, including Bidikmisi, high achiever students, and financial assistance for underprivileged students. In 2021, the Riau provincial government allocated scholarships for 7,491 students for a total of 88,747,722,000.

“In UMRI, we disbursed our assistance for 748 students, including 310 students who received Bidikmisi scholarship, 346 outstanding students who received the scholarship, and 92 underprivileged students to support the educational sector. By the scholarship program, we hope we can produce competent human resources who can compete globally,” Edy said.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Rector of UMRI, Dr. Saidul Amin, MA; the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Provincial Board, Dr. H Abdul Wahid MUs; ‘Aisyiyah Provincial Board, Dra Hj Syariah MM, the Daily Advisory Board, all academic civitas from the Vice-Rector to the Deans, Director and Head of Institutes, and the Head of Departments. The vice governor and the UMRI Rector officiated with kompang beats (a musical instrument like a tambourine).

“UMRI students should uphold BEST values, including belief, excellence, struggle, and thoughtfulness. You, the millennials, inherited various challenges in the future that should be faced effectively,” Saidul Amin encouraged freshmen.

Furthermore, the Rector of UMRI mentioned 3H values, involving head, to provide the intellectual vision and mission of Muhammadiyah as leaders, heart, have deep faith and ideology as problem solvers, and enlightenment amid community’s problems. Also, hand, to work harder and smarter because faith and ideology without a struggle will be useless/

Saidul also emphasized that in the following year, Umri will accept international students. He mentioned he and the team will communicate with various parties, especially Malaysia, Thailand, and Cambodia. It means that UMRI will expand in accepting overseas students.

The PKKMB led by Dr. Jufrizal Syahri MSi was followed by two thousand students that passed varied selections from January to September 2022. On this occasion, Vice-Rector III invited all freshmen to be a part of developing our civilization as enlightenment. The opening ceremony was enlivened by the student council speech and several attractions from the Student Activity Unit (UKM), including Mapala, Tapak Suci, Sports Club, and Choir.

IAIM Sinjai Freshmen Follows DAD IMM, An Ideological Training

The incoming students of the Institute of Islamic Studies Muhammadiyah (IAIM) Sinjai followed basic ideological training (Darul Arqam Dasar) of the Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM) in H.M. Amir Said Auditorium.

By the theme “The Trilogy Implementation in Building Cadre Militancy towards Progressive IMM”, the training was conducted from 13 September to 18 September 2022 in IAIM Sinjai campus and Balangnipa Fortress.

The Chairman of Muhammadiyah Regional Board (PDM) of Sinjai, Drs. H. Zainuddin Fatbang attended the opening ceremony accompanied by the Head of Islamic and Muhammadiyah Institute (LAIK) IAIM Sinjai, Imam Zarkasyi Mubhar, S.Th.I, M.Ag.

The Head of LAIK expected the Ideological Training could produce cadre militancy in the organization. The militancy will result in the improvement in various aspects of life and competition in goodness.

This ideological training was organized by the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FTIK), the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Communication (FUKIS), and the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Law (FEHI) and also under the supervision of LAIK IAIM Sinjai.

Welcoming Ceremony of UMY International Community Services

The International Relations (HI) department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) held a welcome home ceremony for the International Community Services (KKN) team in Davao, South Philippines, Thursday (15/09). Twenty-four students who participated in International Community Service received a warm welcome.

In his remarks, Dr. Sugito, S.IP, M.Si, the Head of the HI department, mentioned that the team deserved a high appreciation because they succeeded in conducting their service that also maintain a good name of UMY internationally. “The program is an international program for the students. We hope that you can take various advantages from the program and share the programs that have been arranged for your juniors. I hope the International Community Service program can be continued,” he said.

The Community Service program was conducted for a month in collaboration with the Indonesian Consulate General in Davao, South Philippines. In the realization, the team was divided into several groups and deployed in several parts of the South Philippines. It includes General Santos, Glan, Laensasi, and Davao City. The collaboration resulted in several programs in education, arts, culture, creative economics, and clean water facilities improvement. It aimed to empower the Indonesian diaspora in the Philippines.

Syahpati Alfatrah, the team leader of the International Community Service program, attended the ceremony by mentioning a deep impression for the program. “We can understand the complexity of the Indonesian diaspora in Davao. With the knowledge and skills we have, we can contribute to supporting them, particularly, in education and culture for children and skills for women. We also learn to adapt to our new environment. And, we also need to think creatively to face our problems there,” he concluded.

School Experience Program for UM Buton Students

Universitas Muhammadiyah Buton (UM Buton) held a training for the first batch of School Experience Program (PLP) Academic Year 2022/2023 on Thursday (15/09). It was located in the UM Buton Convention Center. Specifically, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) collaborated with the Faculty of Islamic Studies (FAI) UM Buton in organizing the program. The Rector, Dr. Wa Ode Alzarliani SP MM opened the training program by delivering her material “Directions and Policies for UM Buton Development”.

According to Dr. Wa Ode Alzarliani, UM Buton should overcome several challenges. “One of our challenges is to prepare for competitiveness in the globalization era. We currently need to elevate our university’s quality and quantity,” she said. She also expected the students to follow the training seriously and carry out the School Experience Program optimally.

In addition, the Rector also prompted the students to be professional teachers. “I hope Allah SWT blesses you all with a strong solidarity and togetherness,” she said.

The Committee Chief of School Experience Program (PLP) 1, Basri, mentioned that 670 FKIP and FAI students follow the first batch of PLP. Later, the program will be conducted for a week, from Monday (19/09) to Saturday (24/09). The students will be deployed in Kindergarten, Elementary School, Middle School, and High School in Baubau. “The PLP is a developed program to allow you to gain classroom experience in elevating the knowledge, building skills, and strengthening behavior through a learning by doing method,” he said. Therefore, all participants who follow the program should play as motivators, facilitators, dynamists, and problem solvers.

FEB UMS Releases 705 Graduands

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) organized in-person training and convocation for the prospective graduates on Thursday (15/09) located in the Second Campus’s Sports Center UMS.

Of 705 prospective graduates, 157 students received cumlaude predicate. There were 291 male students and 414 female students. The most numerous graduates came from the Management department with a total of 378 graduates, meanwhile, the Developmental Economics department had 199 graduates and the Accounting department had 126.

The Dean of FEB UMS, Prof. Dr. Anton Setyawan, S.E, M.Si advised the prospective graduates to use their time effectively to start pursuing their dreams to be successful in the professional world.

“So it is the right time, the right momentum after the next Saturday (the first-period graduation 2022/2023) to pursue your dreams. You can be optimistic because you have competency, expertise, and life skill to be applied in the employment. I hope you all, 705 prospective graduates will be successful in the professional world,” he said.

On the same occasion, one of the 2003 Accounting department Alumni, Nugroho Edi Purno Atmojo, delivered several directions to the students.

The Branch Manager of BRI Wonogiri prompted all students to take constructive criticism. “With our confidence, by the good name of UMS, we believe that you can have your dream job and a good career. I hope in the future, God will ease your way, not meet any obstacles and slander. Do not be arrogant and boastful. Because we can not take constructive criticism and ideas by doing so,” Nugroho said. The program ended by taking group photos accompanied by Wamsinomi, a Student Activity Unit in music and event organizer.

UNAMIN Sorong Hosts 7th ProfunEdu International Conference 2022

The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) held the 7th Progressive and Fun Education (the 7th ProfunEdu) International Conference in UNAMIN Sorong, Thursday (08/09). The annual conference was initiated by the Association of Educational Institutions of Muhammadiyah – ‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (ALPTK-PTMA). This year, the 7th ProfunEdu raised the theme “The Role of Educational Researchers in Facing VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) in Post-Covid-19 era. The program aimed to disseminate the latest education research, especially on facing challenges in VUCA. 

The host, the Rector of UNAMIN Sorong, Dr. Muhammad Ali warmly welcomed all participants. Afterward, the international conference was opened by Muhammad Sayuti, Ph.D., the Secretary of Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (CHERD). Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, the Vice-Rector I UMS as the Chairman of ALPTK-PTMA became a Conference Chair of this 7th ProfunEdu. He reported the conference was followed by 166 researchers from 76 institutions. The selected articles would be published in reputable Scopus-indexed international proceedings, Scopus-indexed international journals, and National accredited journals in SINTA.

The International Seminar also invited 7 world-class speakers from 5 different countries, including Prof. Amra Sabic-El-Reyes, Ph.D. (Columbia University, USA), Prof. Dr. Ratu Ilma Indra Putri (Universitas Sriwijaya, Indonesia), Prof. Dr. Chan Yuen Fook (Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia), Prof. Dr. Zakiyuddin Baidhawy (UIN Salatiga, Indonesia), Dr. Jenny Buckworth (Charles Darwin University, Australia), Dr. Parmin (Universitas Negeri Semarang, Indonesia), and Dr. Gamal Abdul Nasir Zakaria (University of Brunei Darussalam, Brunei Darussalam). In short, the conference aimed to elevate the publication performances of the lecturers and researchers from ALPTK-PTMA members.

UMKU Fun Walk Followed by 25,000 Participants

Universitas Muhammadiyah Kudus (UMKU) held Fun Walk on Sunday (11/09). Twenty-five thousand participants gathered on the Main Campus of UMKU and continued to walk on the main street of Kudus. The starting point and the finish line were on the Ganesha, Purwosari Kudus, in front of the UMKU Main Building. On this fun walk, the President of Muhammadiyah Central Board, Prof. Dr. KH. Haedar Nashir, and the Secretary of Muhammadiyah Central Board, Prof Dr. Abdul Mu’ti presented. They were also accompanied by the President of ‘Aisyiyah Central Board, Dra Hj Siti Noordjannah Djohantini MM MSi. The Kudus Regent, the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Regional Board, the UMKU Rector, Indonesia Ambassador to South Korea, commissioners, and the National bank directors also joined the Fun Walk.

Dr. Hilal Majdi, the host, appreciated all participants that joined the fun walk. “Your participation brings success for all. I hope Allah SWT blesses this program,” he said. Afterward, the Kudus Regent and the President of Muhammadiyah Central Board delivered their remarks, respectively.

Prof. Haedar Nashir mentioned that Muhammadiyah Kudus were progressive and enlightening. “We are ready for the 48th Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah Muktamar (National Congress) in Surakarta. This fun walk becomes our chance to be healthy physically and mentally,” he said.

In an interview, the Rector of UMKU appreciated and fully supported the fun walk organized by the Muhammadiyah Regional Board of Kudus. “This is an appreciation for UMKU to be the starting point in the preliminary agenda of Muktamar Muhammadiyah ‘Aisyiyah. UMKU and all Muhammadiyah community service in Kudus are ready for succeeding in this monumental event,” he said.

The enthusiastic participants became a kind of support for Muhammadiyah Kudus members in the 48th Muktamar that would be held in Solo two months ahead. Besides being healthy physically and mentally, the fun walk also offered various door prizes, including free accommodation tickets for Umrah worship, Honda PCX, Yamaha Mio, Honda Scoopy, refrigerator, washing machine, TV, bicycle, and other prizes.

To Welcome Freshmen, Unismuh Makassar Provides Various Free Services

Muhammadiyah – ‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs) were currently bustling to welcome the new students. Including Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh Makassar), they had prepared a unique way to welcome freshmen in the Academic Year of 2022/2023. Located in the parking lot of the Medical and Health Science Faculty (FKIK), the campus provided a free service for motorcycles, medical checks up, and Household Loan Credit (KPR) exhibition. Besides varied programs, the campus also shared special gifts through games. The programs specifically targeted lecturers and educational personnel in Unismuh Makassar for two days, from Wednesday to Thursday (14-15/09).

The programs were opened by the Rector of Unismuh Makassar, Prof Ambo Asse, that collaborated with CIMB Syariah Bank, and PT Suraco Jaya Abadi Motor. On the other hand, Prof Andi Sukri Syamsuri, the Person In Charge, explained that Unismuh has always prepared great service to the students. Therefore, the lecturers and staff should always be in a good condition before the academic learning process starts. “The lecturers, staff, and the cleaning service’s vehicle should be ready as they can not be late to work. The free motor service has been prepared for 100 vehicles, specific for the Yamaha. But we have prepared for the change of motor oil on the other brands,” said Prof Andi when delivering his remarks.

The staff who have no vehicle, he added, could loan a motor with some exemptions. “In this event, the staff can pay in installments without the down payment (DP). They can even directly bring the motor home with its Vehicle Ownership Certificate (BPKB),” he said. On this occasion, CIMB Syariah also offered Household Loan Credit with a low-interest rate. In addition, it also provided bullion ownership service.

Interestingly, FKIK Unismuh also provided medical checkups for blood sugar levels, cholesterol, and blood pressure. “We mainly planned that the lecturers and staff will always be in good condition to welcome the incoming students,” Prof Andi Said.

In his remarks, Prof Ambo Asse reported that the total of Unismuh Makassar’s new students was over 4,000 students. A day before this article was released, 4,027 freshmen were ready to study at Unismuh. On this occasion, Prof Gagaring Pagalung also attended the program accompanied by the CIMB Syariah Branch Area Head of Eastern Indonesia, Herry Usman; the Dean on FKIK Unismuh, Prof. Suryani As’ad; the Secretary of Daily Advisory Board (BPH), Mustakim Muhallim; the Head of Financial Bureau, Shahabuddin Nanda MM; and several Vice-Deans. As a plan, the new student inauguration will be conducted in the Muhammadiyah National Congress Courtroom, Unismuh Makassar, on Thursday (15/09).

Pengenjek Village Gets UMMAT Socialization To Prevent Child Marriage

Universitas Muhammadiyah Mataram (UMMAT) held a Capacity Building Program of Student Organization (PPK ORMAWA) from June to December in Pengenjek Village. One of the programs was the Maturing Ages of Marriage (PUP) program conducted on Thursday (01/09). The program was also assisted financially by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. On this occasion, the Regional and Urban Planning department Student Association (HMPWK) organized the program. It aimed to build awareness of suppressing the Child Marriage rate. Fifteen students were involved in the program with approximately 26 participants who came from Pengenjek people.

Meanwhile, the PUP program targeted to provide an understanding of the negative impacts of child marriage. The socialization invited the family planning officer (penyuluh KB), Supritatni, as a speaker. She represented the Regional Office of Women Empowerment, Child Protection, Citizenship Control, and Family Planning in Central Lombok. “The program was expected to improve communities’ awareness of the negative effect of child marriage. So, we can suppress the child marriage and stunting in Pengenjek village,” she hoped.

Similarly, Baiq Harly Widayanti, ST. MM, the supervisor from UMMAT, also explained that the program was socialization to prevent child marriage and helped to form communities network. “We, from UMMAT, highly hope for all women in this women’s school. I hope they can share this information with other communities. So, the problem of child marriage (in Lombok) can be reduced and suppressed,” she said.
