Sisilia Agustiani Ora, An Outstanding Karate Athlete from UM Surabaya

Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya) provides a scholarship quota for athletes, including a Karate athlete from Blitar, Sisilia Agustiani Ora. Currently, Sisil is in her third semester in the Management department. Before studying at UM Surabaya, she has become an outstanding athlete since 4th grade in elementary school. She won her first medal in the Regional Championship in the third place when she was in elementary school. Her achievement increased when she was in middle and high school. “The moment I remember is when I was in middle school competing in the Jombang Open Tournament. When I competed for the Regent’s Cup, I injured my jawbone. It made me almost quit,” she said, as reported on the official UM Surabaya site.

The parents and people around her supported her to raise again. She achieved the gold medal in the women’s singles category at the 2016 National Sports Week (PON) in Bandung, West Java. She also bagged the silver medal at the 2017 SEA Games. Sisil planned to compete in the East Java Provincial Championship (Kejurprov) on 9-11 September in Magetan and A Series on 18-20 November in Jakarta.

UM Surabaya journalist who interviewed Sisil reported her abundant national and international achievements. In the interview, Sisil also mentioned that the key to success in her career is commitment. “No matter how great you are as an athlete, achievement is impossible without commitment,” she said. In addition, maintaining her commitment is motivation. She motivated herself every time she bagged trophies to prevent excessive pride.

Because of her commitment, Indonesia Karate-Do Sports Federation (FORKI) appointed Sisilia Agustiani Ora to its Executive Board as the Head Coach.

A Complete Success in Competency Test, Unisa Bandung Becomes Preferred Campus

Unisa Bandung regains a complete success in the competency test with a 100% passing rate after previously reached the highest competency test result in West Java. Fifty-three students of Diploma-III Nursing department, Unisa Bandung proved to be competent based on the Decree of National Committee for Public Health Competency Test Number 0988/KOM-Kes/IX/2022, Tuesday (06/09).

Based on interview, the students of the Faculty of Health Science (FIKes) Unisa Bandung mentioned two reasons behind deciding to study at Unisa Bandung, the high percentage in the Competency Test and consistently applying Islamic values in the learning process.

“Because Unisa is different from the other campuses. I remain faithful to my choice. It is a religious campus, the lecturers are friendly, and Unisa has a high passing rate in the competency test result,” said Winny Anggraeni, a Professional Nurse study program after Baitul Arqam Purna Studi (BAPS) ‘Ideological Training Before Graduate’ on Wednesday (24/08).

Similar to Winny, Aldila, the Diploma-III student in Nursing Science, mentioned the same reason. “I decided to study in Unisa Bandung because besides being an Islamic campus, there are a lot of scholarship offers, and facilitating the students after graduation to work overseas including in Japan, and it has a high passing rate of the competency test”.

Dewi, a Professional Nurse study program, also mentioned one consideration to study in Unisa was because of high competency test results. “Another reason I consider choosing Unisa is because of the high passing rate of the competency test every year,” said Dewi after the Ideological Training last Wednesday.

Universitas Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya (UMPR) held a new student orientation program to navigate campus life (P2KK) and Sports and Arts Orientation Week (POTS) on Monday (05/09). The orientation was conducted offline by inviting various special guests. One of them is the Deputy Chief of Provincial Police (Wakapolda) Central Kalimantan, Irjen Pol Ida Oetari Poernamasasi, S.A.P., M.A.

Located in the Main Hall of UMPR, she was accompanied by Vice-Rector II, Ika Safitri Windiarti, ST, M.Eng, Ph.D. She also delivered the material about “Be a Superwoman” in front of over 1,000 freshmen.

Furthermore, the Wakapolda Central Kalimantan mentioned that to be a superwoman, a woman needs to know what is the priority in their life. It means that a woman should understand what they do and will do. One of the ways is to comprehend the consequences of every decision. “Branding yourself. Find your true ability, whatever it is,” said Irjen Pol Ida Oetari Poernamasasi, S.A.P., M.A.

She also mentioned her hope for the new students to be an inspiration for others, especially for their families and surroundings.

The New Student Orientation for Campus Life Unisa Bandung (KOPIKU) is an annual routine program of Unisa Bandung in accelerating the student adaptation process. This year, KOPIKU was conducted in hybrid, through Zoom Meeting and offline, located in the Mujahidin Mosque Hall, the First and Second Campus of Unisa Bandung, Monday-Tuesday (05/06-09).

The Committee Chief, Hanif Subagja, S.T. FT mentioned that KOPIKU aimed to introduce incoming students to their new environment. “Kopiku is a program to introduce new students to their campus life and prepare the transitional process from high school students to uni students,” he said.

Hanif also explained that KOPIKU has varied activities, including seminars, Forum Group discussions (FGD), and team-building programs. “KOPIKU contains various activities related to provide insight into national issues, academic atmosphere, Islamic and Muhammadiyah values, entrepreneurship, good governance on campus, student organizations, and many others,” said Hanif.

The Secretary of Committee, Diah Nur Indah Sari, A.Md.Keb.SKM reported that 623 freshmen followed the KOPIKU. The Rector of Unisa Bandung, Tia Setiawati, S.Kp.,M.Kep., Ns., Sp., Kep., An, in her remarks, mentioned the status of university students is a new start in their academic journey. “Your status as a university student is a new beginning of your academic journey in Unisa Banding. STIKes Muhammadiyah Kuningan (STIK MK) became one preferred higher education institution in Kuningan. It was demonstrated by the alumni who entered the workforce only 3 months after graduation. That was a statement of Wawang Anwarudin, M.Sc, the Chairman of STIKes Muhammadiyah Kuningan when opening the 2022 Freshmen Orientation (Mastamaba), Monday (05/09).

It was conducted in one week and followed by hundreds of incoming students by raising the theme “To Create Young Intellectuals who have High Moral Standards and Strong Mentality in Independent Learning Independent Campus era”.

In his remarks, Wawang also explained that the new students were not wrong in selecting a study program, both in the Bachelor program and Diploma in STIK MK. He also appreciated the student admission committee for managing the increased number of freshmen. “The current prospective students, alhamdulillah, are numerous. It has not come without our hard work and it can be realized due to the new student admission committee (PMB). Health Polytechnic of Muhammadiyah (Poltekkes Muh) Makassar held a New Student Orientation for Campus Life (PKKMB) in Horison Ultima Hotel and Ratulangi Campus, Monday-Tuesday (05-06/09). The orientation was continued by the declaration of four sins of higher education, including anti-tolerance, anti-bullying and sexual harassment, anti-drug abuse and alcohol addiction, and anti-corruption.

The orientation followed by 425 freshmen raised the theme “To Actualize Students With Noble Character, Self-dependence, Intellectual, and High Nationalism based on Islamic and Muhammadiyah Values”. In his report, the Committee Chief of PKKMB, Soekarman, ST, MT mentioned four study departments that followed in the PKKMB, including Radiology, Environmental Health (Sanitation), Electromedical Technology, and Medical Laboratory Technology. The freshmen was from various regions in Indonesia, consist of South Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Java, Sumatera, East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, Papua, Ambon, West Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Gorontalo. Besides several regions, the incoming students also have varied religious backgrounds. “Alhamdulillah, considering the diversity, the theme of PKKMB is very suitable because we raise religious, national, and character topics,” he said.

The PKKMB was started with an Islamic sermon by the Chairman of the Daily Advisory Board (BPH), Prof. Dr. KH. Mustari Bosra, MA. Prof Mustari appreciated all parents and families for the trust to send their children to Poltekkes Muh Makassar. “I prompt all students to prepare their physical and mental condition to adapt to the campus academic atmosphere. The campus will be different from the high school. So be educated, progressive, and proficient students,” he said.

On the other hand, the Director of Poltekkes Muh Makassar, Dr. H. Effendy Rasiyanto, M.Kes asked for all freshmen to obey and follow the rules and system that have been applied in Poltekkes Muh Makassar. He also expected that the PKKMB can produce students with noble character, self-dependence, intellectual, and high nationalism. Besides the four values, he also highlighted the students should be a smart progressive generation based on Islamic and Muhammadiyah values in the future.

Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta and the General Election Commission (KPU) of Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the Meeting Room of Siti Moendjijah, Integrated Campus, UNISA Yogyakarta, Monday (05/09).

The Rector of UNISA Yogyakarta, Warsiti, S.Kp., M.Kep., Sp.Mat and the Head of KPU DIY, Hamdan Kurniawan, S.IP, M.A. signed the memorandum. And to witness the procession, the University boards, Heads of the Department of UNISA Yogyakarta attended in the Meeting Room with several representatives of KPU DIY.

Warsiti, in her remarks, mentioned that it was not easy to earn the trust from KPU DIY. However, KPU DIY currently has examined UNISA Yogyakarta so the collaboration between UNISA Yogyakarta and KPU DIY would be actualized.

“We established as a health school, so what we can collaborate with KPU is in maintaining the health condition of Voting Organizing Group (KPPS) to prevent the previous election problems in 2019,” said Warsiti.

Furthermore, Warsiti added that Unisa Yogyakarta has lecturers and students that can contribute to the general election, especially in the supervisory, education for smart political literacy practice, the insurance of the good and proper candidate, and prevention of black campaign.

On this occasion, Hamdan mentioned the biggest challenges that will be faced in the next election in 2024 as the biggest general election in the world. Because of the most numerous electorates in each region, the General Election Commission should readily prepare all possibilities. “To organize a big size of human resources is not easy. It needs good governance to work professionally by prioritizing the health condition,” said Hamdan.

Agreement of Cooperation Between UMKO and Jawaharlal Nehru University

Last Friday (02/09), the Faculty of Law and Social Science (FHIS) Universitas Muhammadiyah Kotabumi (UMKO) signed an agreement of cooperation (AoC). The AoC was conducted in Universitas 17 Agustus Semarang. For this occasion, Universitas 17 Agustus Semarang (UNTAG) initiated the collaboration between Jawaharlal Nehru University. The program involved 61 Faculties of Law throughout Indonesia, including FHIS of Universitas Muhammadiyah Kotabumi (UMKO). Meanwhile, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is one of the universities in India located in New Delhi.

Sixteen Faculties of Law in Indonesia were affiliated with the Association of Law School Leaders Indonesia (APPTHI). The APPTHI was established in 2015 with the leadership team composed of the Dean of the Faculty of Law, the Head of Law School, and the Head of Law Department in the Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral program.

On this agreement of cooperation (AoC), UMKO was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Social Science (FHIS), Suwardi, S.H., M.H., CM., CPCLE attended the procession. On the other hand, Prof Gautam Kumar Jha, Ph.D., the Dean of Law Faculty represented Jawaharlal Nehru University, India.

UMS Students Discover Organic MSG That Safer and Healthier

A team of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) students accomplished to discover a flavor enhancer, an organic Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) that is safer and healthier in the human body due to its base ingredient from tempe and pineapple. The product called “Baharat” was a Student Creativity Program for Entrepreneurship (PKM-K) UMS that aimed to enhance the flavor of food to be savory.

“I hope our product, Baharat, is acceptable in the broader communities. The MSG is safer than the MSG that had circulated in the market because it has no chemical substance,” said the team leader, M Galih Wicaksono, Monday (05/09). The innovation of this organic MSG, he continued, is based on a credible article. He hoped that their product could be an alternative to the chemical MSG that has circulated in the market to improve public health. He also mentioned that Baharat is high in protein but low in natrium.

“From Baharat, it can reduce the risk of cancer, hypertension, and other harmful diseases,” said Galih, accompanied by their supervisor, Endang Setyaningsih, S.Si., M.Si. Galih also mentioned that the organic MSG contains pineapple extract that contains Bromelain compound as anti-inflammation. The product also contains tempe that is rich in protein. Besides reducing the risk of Parkinson’s, the consumption of tempe will improve brain function and help to lower bad cholesterol. The product also does not contain preservatives so it is safe to consume and sell in liquid on a sachet. “The price is affordable,” he said.

Besides Galih as the team leader, Kus Alan Dhimas Prabowo, Aulia Firda Salsabila, Eriza Putri Ayu Ning Tias, and Lu’lu’ul Rosyiqul Hayati were from different study programs, including Biology Education, Teaching Training and Education Faculty; Chemical Engineering, Engineering Faculty; and Nutrition Science, the Health Science Faculty. “So far, the organic MSG Baharat has been tested through microbiology, organoleptic, and nutritional fact in Product Quality Testing and Certification (BPSMB) of Surakarta,” said Endang Setyaningsih.

Involving 5,718 Freshmen To Play Wayang, UMY Breaks World Record

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) broke another record in Record Holders Republic (RHR) for organizing Masa Taaruf ‘New Student Orientation’ (Mataf), Sunday (04/09). Located in Sportorium UMY, the world record was achieved by involving 5,718 new students in performing wayang (a traditional form of puppet originating from Java) on the local campus.

Faris Al Fadat mentioned that it aims to spread positive impacts by introducing cultural values through the most numerous wayang and dalang (the puppeteer). “Besides the encouragement process for new students to reach accomplishment at the beginning of their first year,” said the Vice-Rector for Student and Alumni affairs. Faris also mentioned that the world record has been prepared for the last three months with a wayang concept by students collectively.

The students and the main puppeteer, Ki Udreka Hadi Swasana, performed ‘Sang Abhiseva” which explained Indonesia’s diversity. The A3-size portraits from the students were of varied tribe representatives in Indonesia. In the record-breaking, the committees used one main puppeteer and 5,718 students as his assistants. In the performance, dialogues were divided alternately. “Whoever breaks the world records becomes a prideful achievement for the campus and Indonesia,” he said.

On the other hand, the representative of Asia President of RHR, Lia Masmutiasari explained that the performance with 5,718 students broke another world record. “For this occasion, RHR gives three world certificates of appreciation, including the UMY Rector as a creator, the committee of Mataf, and event coordinator,” she said.
