The Faculty of Law of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP) held International Seminar in A.K. Anshori Hall, Friday (11/03). By the theme “The Concept of War in Islam and International Law”, the seminar was also attended by the Rector of UMP, Dr. Jebul Suroso; the Vice-Rector IV for Research, Innovation, and Human Resources Affairs, Dr. Anwar Ma’ruf; and various lecturers in Law Faculty. The International Seminar committee invited several expert speakers, Prof Dr. Mohd Hazmi from Universiti Sains Islam, Malaysia (USIM), Prof Jaco Backhuizen from University of Limpopo, South Africa, and Dr. Soediro, SH LLM from UMP.
In his remarks, the Rector of UMP, Dr. Jebul Suroso, appreciated the Faculty of Law for organizing the International seminar. “I appreciated the Faculty of Law that has managed this International seminar. It is important for our university to discuss International perspectives towards internationalization of the university,” said the Rector. He also expected that the participants could achieve extensive knowledge from the seminar.
The Dean of Law Faculty, Dr. Soediro SH LLM, in an interview, explained that the International seminar could elevate the quality and quantity so that UMP and USIM could have a great partnership. “We can enhance our quality by inviting guest lecturers, organizing student exchange program, collaborative and joint research between UMP and USIM. It was expected to create a great partnership,” he said on the UMP site.
Moreover, Prof Dr. Mohd Hazmi appreciated the invitation and warm welcome to the seminar. “We can observe the interaction between students, online participants, and an online presenter from South Africa. We also can see the students’ interest in the particular topic,” he said. Furthermore, he also mentioned the internationalization of Law Faculty UMP, and hope in the future, it can organize more seminars or other programs. “I pray for the success and hope it can be more seminars or organize Asian Classroom, the summer school program followed by all students in Asia,” he said.
