STKIP Muhammadiyah OKU Timur, South Sumatera, recently held an online seminar by raising the theme “Understanding Taiwan Education and Scholarship System”, Thursday (17/02). The conference was attended by over 600 participants, including the boards, lecturers, and students of STKIP Muhammadiyah OKU Timur. The teachers and high school students in various schools in OKU Timur regency. The agenda was conducted by collaborating with Taiwan Education Center Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (TEC UMY) and Taiwan Economic and Trade Office (TETO) in Jakarta.
In his remarks, the Head of International Affairs Office UMY, Yordan Gunawan, explained that Taiwan Education Center (TEC) is an agency organized by the Education Ministry (MOE) Taiwan with the vision to strengthen academic collaboration between Taiwan and Indonesia. The Online Seminar aimed to introduce the higher education system in Taiwan and various scholarships offered to all Indonesian citizens. “TEC UMY is one of three TEC in Indonesia, besides Universitas Airlangga Surabaya and Universitas Negeri Jakarta,” said Yordan.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Daily Advisory Board (BPH) of STKIP Muhammadiyah OKU Timur, Prioyitno, welcomed and appreciated TEC UMY that has organized the online seminar. At this online seminar, Prio expected the students and lecturers to be encouraged to pursue higher degrees abroad. “We appreciated TEC for organizing the seminar, I hope this agenda can be run well and beneficial for us all,” he said.
Didi Franzhardi, the Chairman of STKIP Muhammadiyah OKU Timur, admitted his intention to build the institution he led to create a national reputation and compete internationally. “In the third year, one of the attempts to internationalize STKIP in collaborating foreign campuses, including in Taiwan,” said Didi beaming.
On this occasion, Lita Nabilla Mallolongan, the resource person and manager in TEC, shared information about the education system, scholarship offered, and living in Taiwan. She highlighted various advantages that students can get from studying there. “Besides studying in the world reputable campus and technological advancement in Taiwan, we have opportunities to explore and deepen our knowledge. Also, we can learn about Taiwan culture and civilization, especially International business language, Mandarin. The job opportunity after graduation becomes better. In addition, the living expenses in Taiwan are affordable and the government provides scholarship offers,” he said. Besides various information about the study and scholarship offered in Taiwan, Lita also provides tips to get a scholarship for studying abroad in Taiwan.
