UMMU Welcomes Students Back From Third Batch of International Program

The Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Maluku Utara (UMMU), Prof. Dr. Saiful Deni welcomes 10 students back to UMMU from Student Community Service (KKN) and International internship program in Thailand located on the second floor, the UMMU Rectorate Building. The welcoming ceremony of the third batch of the International program was also attended by the Vice Rector and all academic civitas, including the Head of Institutes, the Dean, and the Head of Study Programs. It was opened by presenting the documentary video of KKN and the International Internship Program from Ternate to Thailand and all activities in the process. In his remarks, the Rector warmly welcomed the students who had followed a one-month program in Thailand. “Remarkable! UMMU became the first MHEIs that moved forward in sending their students after the pandemic struck,” he said.

He continued that in the 5.0 era, various competitions were waiting ahead. Several international collaborations with other countries, including Korea, have been postponed due to the pandemic. “I hope it will get better. Because currently, UMMU has the highest international networks and collaborations in North Maluku and it becomes a prideful achievement of ours,” he added.

On this occasion, the students also presented the program during their community service and internship. It was diverse due to eight different schools for ten students to conduct the program.

The International Program is the collaborative program between UMMU and the Association of Education Cultural International (AECI) Krabi, South Thailand. “Alhamdulillah, we have entered the last stage of these programs. Yesterday, we started from Ternate to Jakarta on 29 June, and on 30 June, we were invited to the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (PMK) for the discussion,” said Faujia Umasigi, the Head of International Office UMMU.

The other positive news from the current internship program was the student produced a module entitled “The Indonesian History and Culture in the Thai language” that has been socialized and submitted to each school in Thailand. Afterward, the official launching of the module at this welcoming ceremony also involved the associated parties. “The report will be designed by the participants and should be submitted to the Research and Community Service Institute. The conservation scores of the programs, as expressed earlier, included two scores for both community service and internship program,” she added.

Umsida Hosts National Meeting for Medical Faculty Establishment in MHEIs

Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo (Umsida) hosted a national meeting (Rakornas) for the Medical Faculty establishment organized by the Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (CHERD). The meeting was located in Mas Mansyur Hall, 7th Floor, First Campus, Sidoarjo on Monday (15/08).

The Rector of Umsida, Dr. Hidayatulloh, MSi warmly welcomed all participants and appreciated the trust to host the National Meeting. “Welcome to Umsida, alhamdulillah, on this morning, we can gather in the Mas Mansyur Hall to follow the coordination meeting to establish Medical and Dentistry faculty, and Medical Specialist organized by CHERD, located in Umsida,” Dr. Hidayatulloh delivered his remarks.

On this occasion, the Chairman of CHERD, Prof Dr. Lincolin Arsyad MSc opened the meeting and invited all participants to discuss the establishment of the Medical Faculty of Muhammadiyah – ‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs) in detail.

He also mentioned that it could be an opportunity to exchange information among MHEIs to establish the Medical Faculty and have the potential for further development. “Here, I tell you that the institutions that we invite have prepared the requirements to establish a Medical Faculty, at least halfway,” Prof Lincolin said.

Furthermore, Prof Lincolin Arsyad also highlighted that to establish the Medical Faculty, good intention is not enough. “I hope you can prepare well in your institutions, so we can measure the opportunities and challenges to open the Medical faculty. Also, good luck. Here, you should present your preparation result. I expect that you, at least, will understand all preparation for the Medical faculty establishment. If you only have good intentions, it will not be enough, but I tell you once more, doctor, hospital, and building,” he added.

In addition, the Vice Deputy of CHERD, Prof Dr. Edy Suandi Hamid MEC mentioned that doctors in remote areas are urgently needed. For this reason, the distribution of medical science graduates to remote areas is necessary. “(In Java), we have numerous doctors. The problem is not in the quantity but the lack of supply. By using the data, we have enough doctors in Indonesia, however, there is a distribution problem by only focusing on Java. In the latest data, only Jakarta has a sufficient amount of doctors, the other regions still lack of supply,” he said.

Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo (UMSIDA) received the visit to collaborate with Universitas Bangka Belitung (Unmuh Babel) on Monday (15/08). The visit was located in the Meeting Room on the First Floor of the UMSIDA Rectorate Building. To welcome, the Vice-Rector III UMSIDA, the Vice Dean I of the Economics Faculty, the Head and Secretary of Management department, the Head of Management Laboratory, the Management lecturers, and the Head of Quality Assurance Institute (LPM) attended in the Rectorate Building. The representatives of the Economics and Business Faculty also attended the meeting. The collaboration aimed to implement the Independent Learning Independent Campus (MBKM) program.

The Vice Rector III, Eko Hardiansyah, M.Psi. warmly welcomed the visit. “Welcome to Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo. Alhamdulillah, we can meet here, today. I hope our meeting benefits both institutions,” he said. Furthermore, he also added that collaboration among higher education institutions in the information disclosure era became important. Because the institution can not be developed without a collaborative program with other institutions.

Furthermore, Dr Nizwan Zukhri MM, the Vice Rector I Unmuh Babel expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome of UMSIDA boards. “Alhamdulillah, we finally here in Sidoarjo. We appreciate the warm welcome. I also hope it can bring benefits to all of us. We should learn from UMSIDA because it was established first,” he said. He also highlighted in this rapid development era, collaboration could elevate institutional performance.

The visit from Unmuh Babel was also conducted to start a collaborative program in implementing Tri Dharma of Higher Education Institutions, including the teaching, research and development, and community service. Through this first collaboration stage, it would be a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) from both parties. “Alhamdulillah, we can learn from UMSIDA,” Dr Nizwan Zukhri MM said.

Research and Innovation Institute Launched 2022 UMS Research Schemes

Research and Innovation Institute (LRI) Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) aimed to support the Rector of UMS in organizing the research and product innovation in the development of Islamic education and knowledge. To support the innovation, LRI launched six research schemes in 2022 at Moh. Djazman Auditorium on Friday (12/08).

The Chairman of LRI, Ir. Sunarjono, M.T, Ph.D. mentioned the six schemes for internal UMS to be applied to the lecturers. Three schemes develop the existing schemes, one scheme is a merger of several schemes, but the two other schemes are new. The research schemes were expected to encourage lecturers and students in conducting research, in implementing the Independent Learning Independent Campus program, multidisciplinary field, and producing excellent research output based on its scheme.

“Six schemes comprising: (1) Competitive Research (Rikom) is the development scheme of Perekom. It becomes the only scheme that can be accessed by lecturers with teaching staff status, (2) Competency Research consists of two schemes, Doctoral Competency Research (RKD) for lecturers with a doctoral degree and Professor Competency Research (RKP) which can be accessed by the Professors, (3) Postgraduate Research is a derivational scheme of the Director of Research, Technology, and Community Service (DRTPM), consists of Master Thesis Research (RTM) to support the final assignment research for Master students and the supervisors can access the scheme and Doctoral Dissertation Research (RDD) for the promotors,” Sri Sunarjono said.

Furthermore, Sri Sunarjono continued by mentioning three remaining schemes (4) Department Prominent Research (RUProdi) is the development of PUPS targeting to support department roadmap, (5) Innovative Productive Research (RISPRO) UMS becomes a merger scheme from the three previous schemes, including Pesatu, Pemitra, and Pinpru. It aims to support the research that is ready to be submitted in RISPRO LPDP, and the last (6) International Collaborative Research (RKI) was expected to improve Joint Research abroad.“ The launching of these research schemes was attended by the representatives of all faculty leaders and the center of studies at UMS.

“We hope these research schemes can encourage the lecturers to conduct more research, so the positive tradition of research can grow faster in UMS. These research schemes have 1 – 3 years with the total funding of 15 to 100 million rupiahs,” Dr. Ambarwati, MSi as the Head of Research Division of LRI UMS. Moreover, Ambarwati emphasized, “LRI appreciated all UMS researchers who contributed to arranging guidelines of research”.

The Head of Innovation Division of LRI, Prof Kun Harismah, Ph.D. explained, “In this innovation program, several methods have been shared, including the producing of e-catalog of prominent product, the submission of intellectual property of the lecturers, the lecturers’ competency mapping, the collaboration of Academy, Business, Government and Community), and consultant appointment in business incubators.” [] CHERD / UMS

Riset Camp: Improving Research Productivity of UM Surabaya Lecturers

Postgraduate Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya) organized a research camp for its postgraduate lecturers with the tagline “One Lecturer, One Proposal” for two days on 13-14 August 2022 in Argo Mulia Villa, Prigen, Pasuruan, East Java.

The research camp called Riset Camp was followed by approximately 17 lecturers from three study programs comprised of Islamic Education, Indonesia Language and Literature Education (PBSI), and Sharia Economic Law (HES).

The camp was started with the opening ceremony by the Secretary to Director of Postgraduate Program, UM Surabaya, Dr Sholikhul Huda, M.Phil.I. The Riset Camp program was initiated due to the lack of objective conditions and awareness to conduct research for the postgraduate lecturers, so it was expected to build awareness and positive tradition in research productivity for the postgraduate lecturers.

Therefore, it targeted to produce an output ‘One Lecturer, One Proposal” agenda regulating all participants to design research grant proposals at the end of the camp. Because 17 lecturers participated in this occasion, the output included 17 research proposals.

From 17 proposals, it would be distributed to be submitted in research grant funding from the Ministry of Religion and Muhammadiyah research grant 2022. It was expected to be selected to get various research grants.

After the opening ceremony, it was continued by Dr Sulthon Amin, MM’s presentation of motivational materials to conduct research. He is the Chairman of the Daily Advisory Board (BPH) UM Surabaya and an Indonesian Muslim Entrepreneur. In his materials, he mentioned that to get research grants from the donor agencies, they should own the spirit of fastabiqul khoirot (vying in doing good deeds) and keep on trying to submit.

UMKLA Collaboration With UiTM Malaysia To Elevate Teaching-Learning Quality

The Diploma program (D-III) of Pharmacy, Universitas Muhammadiyah Klaten (UMKLA) agreed to collaborate through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia. The signing procession was located in Truntum Hotel, Padang, Sumatera Barat on 16 July facilitated by the Association of Pharmacy Vocational Program in Indonesia (APDFI). On this occasion, it aimed to elevate the teaching-learning quality and graduates’ achievement from the D-III of Pharmacy, UMKLA.

The Head of Pharmacy department, Apt. Nurul Hudayati, S.Farm,M.Farm explained that the collaboration aimed to build extensive networks, in particular, D-III of Pharmacy and UMKLA in general. Moreover, it aimed to support the government program of Independent Learning, Independent Campus, including student exchange and pursuing higher education.

“On the script (of MoU), the agenda to collaborate is student exchange, lecturer exchange, and joint research between our campus and UiTM Malaysia. By this procession, we build an extensive network through International Collaboration,” Nurul Hidayati said.

Besides UiTM Malaysia, the D-III of Pharmacy Universitas Muhammadiyah Klaten (UMKLA) also collaborates with Taipei Medical University (TMU) Taiwan. Similarly, the collaboration aims to provide a new learning atmosphere and opportunities for the students to study in different countries.

Nurul added that the collaboration has a deep impression between UiTM Malaysia and Universitas Muhammadiyah Klaten (UMKLA) which has the same study program, the Pharmacy. Apart from that, UMKLA also has a high commitment to producing qualified and dignified graduates. Both students and academic staff should meet a balanced employment market.

“We appreciate APDFI that has facilitated this collaboration with 60 institutions from 130 institutions under their guidance. We hope that by this signing process, shortly, we have several breakthroughs and transform the image of Indonesia and Malaysia Pharmacy to own higher competitiveness,” she said.

UHAMKA Ranked First Top Islamic University In Jakarta And 22nd In World

Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. HAMKA (UHAMKA) received a remarkable recognition as the Top 22 Islamic University in the 4ICU version. Beside continues supporting the students to bag medals and the lecturers to receive various grants, recently, Uhamka ranked 22nd Best Islamic University in the World, 3rd in the Muhammadiyah – ‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs), and 33rd in the Indonesia Universities for 4 International College & Universities (4ICU) UniRank 2022 announced in August 2022.

4ICU UniRank is the official international higher education review and rankings of over recognized Universities and Colleges, based in Australia. Five hundred and eighty-two Indonesian universities have registered in 4ICU. In 2022, Uhamka experienced a significant increase because its previous ranked the 99th top Islamic University in Indonesia.

As reported, Prof Gunawan Suryoputro, Rector of Uhamka, expressed his gratitude for Uhamka’s achievement as the 22nd Top University in the world, 3rd in MHEIs, and 33rd in the Indonesia Universities from 582 universities registered in 2022 for 4ICU version. 

Alhamdulillah, we said alhamdulillah for this significant increase of achievement. In 4ICU, we ranked the 22nd Top University in the world, 3rd in MHEIs, and 33rd in the Indonesia Universities from 582 universities registered in 2022. Besides 4ICU, we (Uhamka) also achieved a prideful accomplishment in Webometrics. It can be achieved with the collaboration from all Uhamka civitas academics to keep developing to reach the vision and mission as the Prophetic Entrepreneurial University 2045,” Gunawan said.

He continued, “Recently, we also received excellent accreditation status from the Executive Board of National Accreditation Body for Higher Education (BAN-PT) and Webometrics ranking in first place for positive impact MHEIs and 13th place in Indonesia university. It encourages us to compete in International as an Islamic university”.

To compete internationally, the Rector of Uhamka highlighted human resources capability as an essential element. So the lecturers with a Master’s degree were requested to pursue their Doctoral degree from the Uhamka scholarship scheme when they did not accept a scholarship from the government and other institutions.

Universitas Muhammadiyah Tasikmalaya (UMTAS) collaborated with Universiti Sains Malaysia in facilitating its undergraduate students of the Health Faculty (FIKES) UMTAS to finish their final assignments with a joint supervisor. On this occasion, these assignments were assessed by the external supervisors as the joint supervisor from the School of Health Science, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

Five students who were guided by the external supervisor including Syifa Qolbi Hakim who writes her research entitled Factors Influence of Obesity in Children Aged 6-12 Years at SDN 2 Gunungpereng Tasikmalaya City with Asep Setiawan, M.Kep as the first supervisor and Dr. Divya Vanoh as a joint supervisor. The other students, Eva Nurjanah writes Relationship Between Family Support and Compliance with Medication for Tuberculosis Patients in the Purbaratu Community Health Center in 2021 that guides by Aida Sri Rachmawati, M.Kep, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rosminah Mohamed, and Ade Isna Annur Mukarom writes Effect of Tomato Juice on blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension at the Mangkubumi Public Health Center Tasikmalaya City guides by Aida Sri Rachmawati, M.Kep and Dr. Madam Nurzetty Sofia Zainuddin. Dera Trisna Nopianto who raised The Effect of Education on Family Knowledge of People With Mental Disorders in The Work Area of the Public Health Sukaraja District Tasikmalaya Regency guides by Nia Restina, M.Kep Ns Sp Kep and Dr. Rohani Ismail. Lastly, Siska Amalia writes about Phenomenological Study: An Overview of Experiences of Victims of Domestic Violence During Covid-19 Pandemic in Tasikmalaya City that supervises by Nia Restina, M.Kep, Ns. The guidance activity of these joint supervisors from USM was started in the Even semester of 2021/2022 and ended in August 2022. The joint supervisor program was also bridged by the International Office (KUI) of UMTAS, Aceng Sambas, Ph.D. supported by Miftahul Falah, MSN, and Sulidar Fitri, M.Sc in communicating the program. Dr. Rosminah Mohamed, the USM collaboration coordinator, expected that the collaboration can be continued to provide a positive impact on the students.

UMJ Webinar Highlights Best Healthcare Urgency in Nursing Practice

Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) organized the national webinar on Wednesday (10/08). The national webinar was initiated by the Nursing Science department (FIK) UMJ. The Dean of FIK UMJ, Miciko Umeda SKp MBiomed delivered her materials entitled “Dissemination of Evidence-Based Nursing Practice ”. It aimed to raise awareness in basic nursing practice to provide the best healthcare.

Two hundred participants followed the online webinar. It also invited a keynote speaker, Ninik Yunitri, S.Kep, Ns, M, Kep., Sp.Kep.J. who also a lecturer in the Postgraduate program of Nursing Science.

Ninik mentioned that Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) influences healthcare quality improvement, including good nursing practice, reducing healthcare costs, decreasing geographical problems in nursing practice, elevating clinical service planning, and completing public satisfaction about providing information.

Furthermore, Ninik also explained that according to the research, 20-30% of patients did not get healthcare with scientific evidence. In addition, over 20% of unnecessary practices put the patient at risk. “The evidence from the research will have a considerable impact when it is implemented. So we should apply good practices in service and education. It aims to improve the comprehension of EBP. Then, we give clinical experience in the clinical environment so the nurses can share their good inputs,” she said.

On this occasion, Miciko expected that it required learning achievement to receive the best quality service. It also could develop science in the development of health intervention services. “Learning achievement in Evidence-Based Practice is important to observe the best and foremost healthcare concern. So it can produce a valuable and qualified service. Also, it can develop science,” she concluded.

UMLA Places First In Webometrics At Bojonegoro Residencies

A prideful achievement was accomplished by Universitas Muhammadiyah Lamongan (UMLA) through Webometrics ranking, last July. UMLA placed first at State/Private Universities at Bojonegoro Residenties (Lamongan, Gresik, Bojonegoro, Tuban) against tenth universities in these areas. The Rector of UMLA, Dr Abdul Aziz, S.Kep, Ns, M.Kes expressed his pride and appreciation for UMLA achievement over the last year in Webometrics ranking, July 2022. The pride of the Rector was from the significant raise of webometrics ranking from 604 in the previous year to 156 in January 2022. Currently, UMLA placed 124th rank against all 3,000 State/Private Higher Education Institutions in Indonesia.

Also according to him, the webometrics ranking was not included in UMLA targets; however, it could become a positioning parameter of higher education institutions based on websites, with three assessment standards, including impact rank, openness, and excellence. “However, this achievement is good enough considering that we were established less than 5 years ago but we can compete with other universities, even better,” he said. Azis also described this achievement as an advantage over potential competing strategies in the following targets, especially QS World University Rankings in which almost all world universities use the ranking as a reference. “So many parameters in particular ranking institutions. I hope in the five following years, we can be ranked among the world’s top universities,” he said.

UMLA is one of the private universities in Lamongan established in 2018 that experienced a merger between STIKes Muhammadiyah Lamongan and STIE Muhamamdiyah Paciran. The Decree was directly received from the President of Indonesia, Ir. Joko Widodo. UMLA currently has three faculties with sixteen study programs, including the Faculty of Health Science which consists of Bachelor of Nursing, Pharmacy, Hospital Administration, Diploma-III of Midwifery, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Professional Nurse, and Midwifery Programs. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Economics and Business consists of Bachelor of Accounting, Management, Sharia Economics, and the Faculty of Science, Technology, and Education comprises of Bachelor of Physics, Biology, Computer Engineering, and Early Childhood Education
