UM Metro Launched Studio Podcast, Prof Edy Be The First Speaker

To educate and enlighten the public about actual and contemporary issues, Universitas Muhammadiyah Metro (UM Metro) launched a podcast program by designing it to introduce UM Metro to the broader communities in Indonesia and global. The Deputy Chair of Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (CHERD), Prof Edy Suandi Hamid, Wednesday (30/03) with UM Metro Rector, Drs Jazim Ahmad MPd and Podcast Coordinator, Fenny Theresia MPd launched the podcast. After the launch, Prof Edy directly delivered his materials on the “Success with or without privilege” topic led by Arbi, Law Faculty Student.

Prof Edy appreciated the idea of creating podcasts supported by adequate room and facilities. “In the current era, it is not the mainstream media that dominates; however, the IT-based media like this podcast program,” said Prof Edy, a former journalist. On this occasion, Prof Edy suggested the podcast should contain various themes that become communities’ attention by inviting competent experts. It also becomes higher education institutions’ responsibility to provide the correct information and analysis.

“Campus should be concerned with surrounding issues and national problems. To discuss, providing solutions is a higher education institution’s responsibility. So campus can escape an ivory tower that alienates from surroundings,” he said. Moreover, UM Metro Rector explained that he ensures his leadership would bring the campus rapidly develop in information technology and utilize it optimally. “Although we have not established a Communication Science program yet, we can use all communication media to educate and promote our campus,” said the Rector, Jazim Ahmad. To Encourage Qualified Publication, LPPM UMKU Held The 2022 CoSHEET

Kudus (28/03) – To improve the human resources of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), Universitas Muhammadiyah Kudus (UMKU) held The 2022 Conference of Science, Health, Economics, Education, and Technology (CoSHEET). The conference raised the theme “Millennial Generation Existence to Build Creative Human Resources in National Qualified Publication”. It aimed to encourage national writings and qualified publications in various fields.

In the opening remarks, the Rector of UMKu, Rusnoto, SKM, M.Kes (Epid), explained, “Millennial Generation and Demography Bonus in the New Normal Era becomes a challenge and an opportunity for Indonesia in current days and the future. Because they will set the future of Indonesia”. The Rector also highlighted the importance of collaboration. “All parties, the government and business practitioners should prepare millennials as excellent workers and contributors in the 2nd Phase of Demographic Bonus in 2045,” he said. Ninety-one papers from seminar participants have presented the seminar on several topics in Science, Health, Economics, Education and Technology. Five best papers would be invited as Invited Speakers.

The Chairman of LPPM UMKU, Noor Cholifah, S.SiT, MKes explained “Besides UMKU participants, the seminar will be followed by various participants, including the Institute for Health Science Muhammadiyah Palembang, UNISA Yogyakarta, STIKES Kesdam Semarang, Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang, Poltekes Kepmenkes Semarang, Universitas Tasik Malaya, and Poltekes Kepmenkes Palembang. The conference aimed to elevate research quality and development for the national reputation”.

The seminar invited three resource persons, comprised (1) The Chairman of the Institute for Higher Education Services (LLDIKTI) Regional VI, Bhimo Widya A, SH, MH, (2) The Chairman of LPM UMTAS, Dr Mujiarto, ST, MT, and (3) The Head of P2M Poltekkes Palembang, Dr Sonlimar Mangunsong, Apt, MKes. The CoSHEET series consisted of five presentations of the best paper, a symposium, and oral presentations where the participants presented their research. UMPO Encourages Digital Advancement in Workshop

Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo (UMPO) held agenda to encourage creative and innovative millennials in digital technology on Friday (25/03). It was covered in a workshop named Digital Entrepreneur Workshop with the theme “The Great Ponorogo through Progressive Digital Economics”. Seven hundred students followed the workshop that Emil Elistiano Dardak, the Vice Governor of East Java, became a speaker.

It aimed to encourage the millennial generation to be creative, innovative to create digital-based products. It also requires East Java Governmental support that has provided various programs supporting the MSME practitioners and content creators. “It aims to have food security during the digital economics era, by developing digital talents. These talents that we will be motivated to create, so that MSME will be reachable for markets,” said Emil, as reported on UM Ponorogo site.

According to Emil, East Java millennials become creative economic locomotives; however, the most important thing before starting a business is to make plans and analyze the target needed to achieve. Afterward, it requires several phases from situation analysis, company potential, objective & strategies, plans, implementation, results, to feedback.

The Rector of UMPO, Dr. Happy Susanto, MA, expected that the workshop would make the participants understand the importance of the digital world. “UMPO has various study programs, and also each student receives an entrepreneurial certificate. It means that UMPO has encouraged students to utilize the digital world,” he said. Leadership Training Batch 7 Officially Ended

Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (CHERD) formally closed the Leadership Training Batch 7 on Saturday (27/03). The closing ceremony was attended by Prof Dr H Chairil Anwar, the Deputy Chair of CHERD. The agenda was conducted at Grand Rohan Hotel Yogyakarta. Forty-seven participants from 29 MHEIs followed the closing ceremony of Leadership Training.

The representatives of the participants delivered their testimonials on the one-week program of Leadership Training. “The materials we received are beneficial to be implemented in our workplace,” said Dr Abubakar Muhammad Nur from UM Maluku Utara (UMMU). In line with Dr Abubakar, Warsiti, Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta (UNISA) Rector, highly appreciated the Council. She also persuaded all participants to apply the materials to their respective campuses. “It can be applied in many different roles,” she said.

Moreover, Muhammad Samsudin, in the Leadership Training report, highlighted that the Council would continually improve the program in better ways. He also informed an impression report from all participants, including the facilitators, Imam of Training, Director of Training, and facilities. He also announced several participants awarded in various categories. One participant awarded for the highest score, Yuanita MPd from UM Bangka Belitung.

 

Prof Dr H Chairil Anwar’s Remarks

Afterwards, Prof Dr H Chairil Anwar delivered his remarks that LT Batch 7 becomes an illustration that leadership is a nurturing process (from training, preparation, practice), not a natural process. “In the implementation, Leadership Training presented various simulations from the higher education institution management system,” he said.

Prof Chairil Anwar also appreciated all higher education institution leaders that served as Best Practice Campuses in Leadership Training. He also expected that all MHEIs have the same relative quality as others. “The success of education in a country might be seen as its education on the same relative qualities in all universities,” he stated the analogy. Therefore, he added that there should be collaborations and cooperation (taawun) to improve MHEIs in Indonesia.

To Educate Dental and Oral Health, UMS Distributed Free Toothbrush

Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) educated dental and oral health on Sunday (20/03). The program was located in Pasar Gede, Solo Grosir Center (PGS), and Manahan. The dental and oral education was conducted to commemorate World Dental Health Day by the Dentistry Faculty’s Student Executive Board (BEM). It aimed to set the community’s health behaviour and raise their awareness of their dental health.

“To give more attention to dental health by brushing the teeth twice a day. It helps create clean and healthy conditions,” said Lulu Amelia, the Committee Chief for the education program. She also mentioned raising self-confidence by smiling at others with dental and oral health.

The program has collaborated with the Indonesian Dental Student Senate Association (PSMKGI) UMS. Through the collaboration, both BEM and PSMKGI UMS could produce new creative programs to implement. Lulu also explained that she expected that the program would benefit the broader community. The programs included the distribution of brochures, stickers, toothpaste for pedicab drivers, parking attendants, and others.

One of the beneficiaries, Edi Purwanto, mentioned that he had never received dental and oral health education. He explained that he gained the proper brushing technique and consulted the Committee about his dental condition. “I will use this opportunity to apply it in the right direction for brushing teeth,” he added.

Located in Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang (UM Palembang) and the Institute for Health and Technology Science of Muhammadiyah Palembang (IKEST Muh Palembang), Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (CHERD) conducted assistance for Muhammadiyah Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs) in Sumatera 1 regions for two days (21-22/03). The first day was conducted in UM Palembang with Unmuh Palembang, STKIP Muh OKU Timur, and Institute for Technology of Muhammadiyah Sumatera Musi Rawas. The assistance was continued by fostering STKIP Muh OKU Timur, Blitang (23/03) led by Prof Edy Suandi Hamid. He also accompanied by Prof Sjafri Sairin, Drs Daniel Fernandez (Quality Assurance) and Sulaiman MAg (Islamic and Muhammadiyah Studies/AIK).

On this occasion, the Rector of UM Palembang, Dr Abid Djazuli; the Rector of IKESTM Palembang, Heri Satriadi MKes; the Chairman of STKIPM Pagar Alam, Joni Dimyati; and the Chairman of STKIP Muh OKU Timur, Didi Franshardi reported 13 aspects related to each institution’s development. Meanwhile, ITMS Musi Rawas, which had just received the establishment permit, explained their work plans because they were waiting for the operational permit.

Universitas Muhammadiyah Aceh (UNMUHA) achieved “The Foremost and Progressive Campus” in Anugerah Serambi Award, Friday (11/03). Sixty-six institutions attended the award and received points for local development innovation, both in private and state universities. UNMUHA received the honour as the top private university in Aceh in the Foremost and Progressive Campus category.

The 2022 Anugerah Serambi Award raised the theme “Infinite Innovation, Persistent Gratitude” conducted in Anjong Mon Mata, Aceh Governor Meuligoe Complex. Moreover, the award was attended by Aceh Governor, Nova Iriansyah; Nanggroe Aceh representative, Tgk Malik Mahmud Al Haytar; Chairman of Aceh House of Representative, Dahlan Jamaluddin; IM Military Command representative; Chairman of Aceh Ulama Council, Tgk Faisal Ali; Head of Provincial Police and Prosecutor; Aceh National Sports Committee, Muzakkir Manaf; and all Rectors in Aceh Regions.

Moreover, the Committee, Bukhari M Ali, explained that the nominees had experienced a strict, measurable, and objective selection process. “The award appreciated all contributions and dedication in the regional development. I hope the collaboration with Serambi Indonesia will keep running and elevating in the future,” he said.

UNMUHA Rector, Dr H Aslam Nur MA, received the award from the Editorial Board of Serambi Indonesia, Zainal Arifin. He was accompanied by the Head Manager of SI, Mohammad Din. Afterwards, Safira Amalia, Aceh singer, also performed on the Serambi Indonesia awarding night through the “Meusare-sare” song. Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo (UMPO) employees followed internal Islamic studies with Ir Tamhid Masyhudi, the Daily Advisory Board (BPH), on the 4th floor of the Rectorate building Tuesday (22/03). The program conducted by Islamic Da’wa Development Studies (BP3DI) aimed to motivate UMPO employees to always commit to developing the campus. It aimed to create an excellent university and become a reference for other universities.

Ir. Tamhid explained various challenges will be faced in the future; however, on the other hand, there will be ease to overcome them. “In the future, there will be problems and challenges we meet. We have to work hard because there will be a way to overcome it together,” he said.

Along with the agenda, there will be an Islamic and Muhammadiyah Studies (AIK) Program Launching, including Islamic Campus and ‘Al-Manar’ LazisMu Office. “Alhamdulillah, per November 2021, UMPO received trust from Lazismu Muhammadiyah Regional Board of Ponorogo to open ‘Al-Manar’ LazisMu Office. Semeru Literacy Festival of UM Surabaya Exposed Hundreds of Orchids

To commemorate the 38th anniversary of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya), it organized Semeru Literacy Festival (FLS) on Wednesday (23/03). The summit was conducted in Semeru mountainside, Sumber Mujur, Candipuro, Lumajang. Various agenda series included Alam Raya School, Orchids Virtual Tour, and Semeru Health Movement.

UM Surabaya introduced various species of orchids in the Orchid Virtual Tour. Besides the introduction, it also held technical socialization of orchid cultivation. Radius Setiyawan, 2022 FLS Manager Director, explained the series. “The local communities specializing in orchids for years will lead this agenda. The volunteers of Mahasiswa Tanggap Bencana (Student Disaster Response/Matana) UM Surabaya are also helping us here,” he said, as reported on UM Surabaya site.

Several volunteers of Matana UM Surabaya have helped local people to discover mountains by analyzing each species of orchids. It was conducted by ensuring the undamaged condition after the eruption of Semeru. Local people, Cak Saif, explained this condition. “We can see various unique and interesting orchids,” he said. Of hundreds of orchids, three orchids are fascinating, including the smallest orchid in the world, Corybas pictus; the jewel orchid, Macodes petola; and the ghost orchid, Chiloschista javanica.

The volunteering student, Syahril Ali Syabana, mentioned one orchid at the Semeru Literacy Festival. “The jewel orchid has different characteristics. The leaves shine like jewellery, especially at night. The management for Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park also mentioned the protected status for this orchid,” he said.

IAIM Bima Received Gold Medal in Indigenous Martial Arts

Ridwan and Imansya, two students of the Institute for The Institute for Islamic Studies Muhammadiyah (IAIM) Bima, succeeded to achieve national accomplishment. They bagged a gold medal in Pencak Silat (Indigenous Martial Arts) Championship among higher education institutions in Banyuwangi, East Java. Previously, Ridwan was awarded first place in the International championship in Bali. Meanwhile, Imansyah, the Sharia Economics student, also won the martial arts championship in Bima.

The Vice-Rector III for Student Affairs, Dr Ihlas Hasan, admitted that he was proud of his two students’ achievements. The students could compete with participants from Indonesia various campus delegates and bag the medal. “Alhamdulillah, the achievement becomes an outstanding accomplishment. I hope it can enhance the campus’s reputation,” he said in the written statement Tuesday (22/03).

They bagged one gold medal, an appreciation certificate, and one million prizes. Moreover, Ilhas Hasan explained IAIM Sinjai would provide an appreciation for both students. “We will prepare the appreciation after we discuss it with other boards,” he said. [] IAIM Bima / CHERD
