Actualizing Good Governance in Islamic Campus, Unisa Bandung Improves Employee Motivation Through Baitul Arqam

To develop and improve employees who have motivation, competencies, and integrity based on Islamic values, Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (Unisa) Bandung held Baitul Arqam ‘an ideological training’ for the employees in Sare Hotel Yogyakarta, Sunday-Tuesday (28-31/08).

The Head of Human Resource and Public Administration Bureau, Haris Hidayat, S.T., M.Kom. mentioned that Unisa Bandung was a huge mandate for academic civitas to actualize good governance on the Islamic campus. “The solidarity through solid teamwork in Baitul Arqam is necessary to build if we want to reach our primary goals”, he said.

Haris also explained that the term ‘teamwork’ here means combined actions from all academic civitas that have common concern and commitment to reach targets in agreement to achieve collective goals effectively.

“Baitul Arqam aims to build and develop University employees that have motivation, integrity, and competencies to have various roles as a competent organization cadre, Muslim, Muhammadiyah member, nation and humanities,” Haris said, in a written statement (05/09).

The Baitul Arqam was followed by 51 employees consisting of 17 lecturers and 34 educational personnel that recently just started working on Unisa Bandung. Similar to Haris, the Rector of Unisa Bandung, Tia Setiawati, S.Kp., M.Kep., Ns., Sp.Kep. An. also hoped that the Baitul Arqam could improve knowledge and elevate the motivation of the participants in developing Muhammadiyah social services.

 “It is the first Baitul Arqam for the new hires in post-pandemic. I hope the two-day training raises the insight and motivation in how to practice the Islamic values in a strong foundation to develop Muhammadiyah services,” Tia said when delivering remarks.

On the other hand, Achyar Riyadh, a participant and the Dean of Science and Technology Faculty, admitted that he received various knowledge, especially Muhammadiyah’s perspectives. “In 3 days following the training, there is abundant knowledge that I found new perspectives of Muhammadiyah that I have never known. The important point is finally we should return to Bandung to implement as it was expected,” Achyar said.

The Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sukabumi (UMMI), Dr. Sakti Alamsyah, M.Pd laid the cornerstone for the orphanage construction, the Orphanage social shelter (PSSA) Ummu Hadijah, Gegerbitung village, Gegerbitung district, Sukabumi, Saturday (03/09).

“Personally, I am grateful and appreciate the orphanage establishment initiation of ‘Aisyiyah Local Board of Gegerbitung. We pray that in short, it can be finished fast,” said Dr. Sakti when delivering his remarks. The Rector explained that personally and on behalf of UMMI was very supportive of the construction progress. “I hope that in 2-3 months, it can establish and be beneficial,” said Sakti.

The orphanage establishment was very beneficial. Primarily, it can help the North Sukabumi people. “Related to the orphanage, it involves the orphans and underprivileged persons. To support them is our responsibility, especially for Muslims. For this occasion, to build and improve the orphanage is one of the responsibilities,” said the Rector. To support orphans is not only to bring blessings, but the orphans’ prayer is also effective (makbul).

On this occasion, Sakti also invited everyone to constantly appreciate Allah SWT due to the various blessings He gave. “With appreciation, it provides blessings and reminders in good deeds and away from disaster and punishment from Allah SWT. Because we should realize that the disaster and punishment are the results of our actions,” Sakti added.

PSSA Ummu Hadijah will be built in an area of 35 x 80 meters that becomes waqf from nearby communities. Besides supporting the LazisMu UMMI, on this occasion, Sakti also called for Muhammadiyah members to give support, and spontaneously, it collected a tenth million rupiah. “Alhamdulillah, I hope the financial assistance that was collected can bring our good intention to receive blessing from Allah SWT, aamiin,” Sakti added. During the groundbreaking, the Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah Regional Board of Sukabumi and Mosque regulatory board of Al-Ummi also attended the procession.

In Trans Studio Mini Padang, Ridha Jusni Sondra received another accomplishment on Sunday (28/08). The outstanding student from Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Barat (UMSB) won in the Master of Ceremony Semi-Formal Competition and Speakcation. The Communication and Broadcasting Unit (UKKPK) Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) organized this competition.

Thirty participants from various backgrounds, starting from high school students, college students, and public participants followed this competition. Ridha has followed varied events in competing with numerous great competitors. He was also assisted by several mentors, including Rani Adelyo (Tanah Data Protocol), Joni Saputra (his senior in FKIP UMSB) as his mentor in life; and Alvin Nur Akbar (his brother). Three of them accompanied him in his career as the young master of ceremony.

To the Public Relations of UMSB, Ridha explained he had mixed feelings when he heard his name had been called as the first winner of the competition. “I was grateful, I was impressed, I had mixed emotions,” he said in a happy voice when telling his success story on the UMSB official site.

The 2022 UNP Championship invited several judges, including Deni Pratama, S.Hum, MM. CPS, an Indonesian professional MC in presidential events and artists’ shows; One Cantik, a radio broadcaster and voice-over talent in West Sumatera; and Marsela, UNP internal MC. “The most important thing in the process is not how great we are in the beginning, but how we can improve in the future,” Ridha closed.

UMMU Rector: Patent System Provides Additional Points for MHEIs

Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (CHERD) held “Symposium of Patent System in Industrial Era 4.0 towards Indonesia’s Progress” by inviting various Rector from Muhammadiyah – ’Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs) in Indonesia. Collaborated with Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus), the national meeting was conducted on the local campus, Thursday (01/09).

The program coordinated all MHEIs’ leaders in following up on a letter from the Association of Intellectual Property Center of MHEIs (ASKI-PTMA) by focusing on Industrial Era 4.0 and developing a database in MHEIs for good governance in the Intellectual Property Center.

The program opened by the Chairman of CHERD, Prof Dr. Lincolin Arsyad, divided into two agendas, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Directorate General of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham), the Rectors of MHEIs, and ASKI PTMA.

Several purposes in the National Symposium Forum Scheme, first, the agreement about the patent system in facing Industrial Era 4.0 through Indonesia’s Progress. Second, there was also a signing procession of MoU between the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DjKI) and all MHEIs that have Intellectual Property Center or the Units/Divisions. Third, the introduction of the ASKI-PTM website. Lastly, the socialization of Intellectual Property Journals of ASKI-PTM, as a communication medium from the research result and various activities in intellectual property.

The Rector of UM Maluku Utara (UMMU), Prof. Saiful Deni who also attended the meeting explained that it became an additional point for UMMU as the private higher education institution in the National forum. “The improvement also becomes a big picture for UMMU in enriching the Intellectual Property as a foundation of quality improvement on campus,” he said. Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) hosted a National Coordination Meeting of Muhammadiyah – ‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs) in Central Java. The meeting was located in the Eighth Floor Hall, Integrated Building (GKB) II on Saturday (27/08). Prof. Lincolin Arsyad, M.Sc., Ph.D., the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education Research and Development (CHERD) attended as a speaker, accompanied by the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Province Board (PWM) Central Java, Dr. H. Tafsir, M.Ag.; the Head of Research and Development for MHEIs in PWM; the Rector of UMS, UNIMUS, UMP, UMKU, and UNIMUGO, also the Chairman of STAIM Blora.

By raising the theme “Mapping and Development of MHEIs in Central Java towards Excellent and World-class University”, it aimed to coordinate the related policies of higher education institutions, strengthen and initiate business incubators, coordinate the promotion and improvement of the total number of students, coordinate the acceleration of students’ graduation and their qualities, and strengthen MHEIs’ relationship, especially in Central Java. “The background of this meeting is due to Muhammadiyah CHERD’s concern in the high intention of Muhammadiyah Regional Board to establish a new higher education institution in each region, so it requires a coordinating meeting, like nowadays,” said Dr. Tafsir when he delivered his remarks. In a written statement, Dr. Tafsir also urged the improvement of education in Indonesia through Muhammadiyah.

Currently, from the total number of MHEIs that have reached 171 institutions, 26 institutions were located in Central Java. So it was expected that through this national meeting, could produce excellent quality and establish the Rector Forum of MHEIs in Central Java.

Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) organized a gathering on Wednesday (31/08). The gathering invited 200 outstanding students from every faculty. Prof Dr. Agussani MAP, the Rector, accompanied by three Vice-Rectors attended this gathering. It aimed to appreciate the students’ achievements. Not only students, but their supervisors also received appreciation.

The Rector’s gathering with 200 students was placed in the Main Campus Auditorium, UMSU, Muhtar Basri street. Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin; Vice Rector II, Prof. Akrim; and Vice Rector III, Dr. Rudianto followed the gathering with all faculty leaders, and heads of institutions in UMSU.

On this occasion, Prof Dr. Agussani highlighted that the solid synergy from various parties produced varied achievements in numerous competitions. “I am very proud of your achievements. It will also align with the university’s achievement,” he said. Because currently, UMSU develops its accreditation process from ‘A’ to ‘excellent’.

The Rector reminded all parties, lecturers, and students, to be satisfied. The future competition would be tough. The achievement should be appreciated and encourage to reach better achievements. “From years of experience, I wish that it could be adequate preparation to pursue accomplishment,” said Agussani.

Currently, hundreds of UMSU students were involved in various student activities, including 181 students following an independent student exchange program; 1 student following Indonesia International Student Mobility Award; 6 students following Community Service in Universitas Malaysia Perlis; 64 students following exchange students in Independent Learning, Independent Campus program; 74 students following certified internship program; 119 students following certified independent learning; 25 students following an internship in MSMEs; 103 students following Kampus Mengajar program; and 17 students following Forum Human Capital Indonesia (FHCI) internship.

Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) launched and socialized MySpada UMS on Thursday (01/09) online through Zoom Meeting. The Head of the e-Learning division, Husni Thamrin S.T., M.T., Ph.D. mentioned that MySpada is an e-Learning facility to plan, implement, and assess learning processes, familiarly known as Learning Management System (LMS). The LMS has functions to provide digital learning sources and digital learning activities.

In the socialization, Husni also explained that LMS of MySpada UM Surakarta was developed in various ways to ease users in operating LMS. “It has various features to ease users in operating LMS because the system should be integrated by academic system. The students will also experience the easier learning process in accessing materials by their lecturers,” Husni said.

UMS has two OpenLearning LMS, including MyEdu on Myedu.ums.ac.id and MySpada on Myspada.ums.ac.id. MySpada LMS system has various advantages, especially since it is also connected with Spada Indonesia and recorded in online learning activities.

Vice Rector I for Academics, Research, Community Service, Publication, and Intellectual Property affairs, Prof. Dr. Drs. Harun Joko Prayitno, S.E., M.Hum explained that the improvement of learning process quality could be achieved from the facilities in UM Surakarta. UMMI Webinar Introduces Homecare and Complementary Therapy

Universitas Muhammadiyah Sukabumi (UMMI) held an online webinar on Saturday (28/08). The webinar was a series of webinars and Expert Lectures from the Nursing Department to elevate the academic condition at UMMI. It was organized by the Diploma program of the Nursing Department UMMI. The webinar raised the theme “Homecare Application through Family Center Nursing approach for the Family Reliance in Health”. Afterward, the Expert Lectures discussed Complementary Therapy in holistic nursing practice.

In addition, besides elevating the academic condition, the webinar has another target. It aimed to realize a program of the Diploma program of the Nursing Department UMMI and the Nursing Student Association. The students as participants also received varied useful materials from these programs.

The Head of the Diploma program in the Nursing Department, Erna Safariah MKep mentioned the background of the programs. According to her, the Webinar and Expert Lectures could improve students’ competencies due to the updated topic. The homecare and the complementary topic were compatible with the curriculum of the Diploma program in the Nursing Department. “Homecare and complementary therapy for families has become a prominent program in the Diploma program in the Nursing Department UMMI,” she said, as reported on the official site of UMMI.

Universitas Muhammadiyah Karanganyar (UMUKA) is a private university under Muhammadiyah foundation. UM Karanganyar was officially established in 2022 after receiving an Operational Permit from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbud Ristek) RI. It was initiated by the Muhammadiyah Regional Board (PDM) of Karanganyar.

1. The Merger of Three Higher Education Institutions

UMUKA was established from the merger of three private higher education institutions in Central Java. Three institutions comprised Akademi Pariwisata Widya Nusantara Surakarta (AKPARTA) from Widya Nusantara foundation, Akademi Sekretari dan Manajemen (ASMI) Santa Anna from Pendidikan Putera Manunggal Sejahtera, and Akademi Peternakan Karanganyar (APEKA) from Pendidikan Karanganyar foundation. Then, these three higher education institutions merged into one university, Universitas Muhammadiyah Karanganyar (UMUKA).

2. UMUKA was launched by Kemenko PMK

UM Karanganyar was launched by the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (Kemenko PMK) Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, M.A.P after receiving the Operational Permit on 19 May 2022 through the Ministerial Decree Number 332/E/O/2022, and the submission of the Decree on 7 June 2022 by the Directorate General of Dikti Ristek RI.

The former rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), Prof. Dr. Ravik Karsidi, M.S. has an important role from the first arrangement to the establishment of UMUKA. UM Papua Student Orientation Exposes Urgency of Digital Competency

Welcoming the new academic year, Universitas Muhammadiyah Papua (UM Papua) held the new student orientation on Monday-Tuesday (29-30/08). The offline program called the New Student Orientation for Campus Life (PKKMB) in 2022/2023 was placed in the UM Papua Hall. With the theme “To Prepare The Prominent Students in Big Data and Internet of Things era”, 260 freshmen followed earnestly.

In the opening ceremony, the Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs, Dr. Indah Sulistiani, S.E., M.I.Kom.; the Vice Rector II for Financial Affairs, Dr. Muhammad Nur Jaya M.Si; the Vice Rector III for Student Affairs, Dr. Syarifuddin M.K.Kom; the lecturers; education personnel; Student Executive Board (BEM) delegations; and the Commissariat Board of Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM) UM Papua delegations attended on the Hall. The orientation started from 09.00 WIT to 17.00 WIT. As a master of ceremony, Reski Irianti Syarmi led the orientation.

Similar to the previous PKKMB, the incoming students should bring cleaning supplies and wear black-and-white uniforms on the first day and PKKMB uniforms on the second day. Besides from the campus, the Army’s Regional Military Commands (Kodam) XVII/Cenderawasih, National Narcotics Boards (BNN) in Papua Province, Central Information Commission (KIP) Papua, and General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Jayapura also attended.

Dr. Indah Sulistiani SE, M.I.Kom, the Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs mentioned the purpose of the PKKMB to learn more about the campus life that would be different from high school. The students should understand the regulations on campus and various important general knowledge. “So, we organize PKKMB or the new student orientation to introduce the campus life for the new students. We organize on campus to identify important things, especially academic affairs. So it should broaden the student’s horizon as a new member of the university,” she said.
