Journalistic Training of FUKIS IAIM Sinjai Prepares Career Pathway

The Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Communication (FUKIS) Institut Agama Islam Muhammadiyah (IAIM) Sinjai held Journalistic Training on Tuesday (16/11). Forty-eight students of Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Studies (KPI) attended the training located in the Auditorium of H M Amir Said. Three parties were involved in the activity, including the Youth Muhammadiyah Regional Board of Sinjai, the KPI study program, and the Communication, Information and Crypto Agency of Sinjai.

The Dean of FUKIS, Suriarti, appreciated the agenda. “The agenda aimed to provide students soft-skills before they graduated as KPI IAIM Sinjai Alumni,” she said. In his remarks, she also persuaded KPI students to think comprehensively and critically. The students were expected to be creative in elevating their self-confidence.

Moreover, the Chairman of Youth Muhammadiyah Regional Board of Sinjai, Muhlis, explained the background of the Journalistic Training program. He explained that the spreading of hoaxes in communities should be tackled with a program. In addition, the Head of the KPI study program, Faridah, expressed her gratitude to all parties on the agenda.

Two speakers on Journalistic Training, Sirajuddin, the journalist of Harian Fajar newspaper and Muhammad Salid, the journalist of Kompas TV, delivered various topics in journalistic. As reported on the official IAIM Sinjai, the materials included exploring ideas, feature writing, reportage writing, press release, and many others. The agenda was conducted until the following Thursday (18/11).

English Education Student Association, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Barat (UM Sumbar) held a week of 2021 National Heroes Day in the local campus, Wednesday (10/11). The Dean of FKIP UM Sumbar, Dr Mafardi, MPd explained that Heroes Memorial Day is necessary to memorize heroes who fought and sacrificed to achieve Indonesia’s independence and ensure the unity of the nations. “Moreover, the memorial momentum can be a reminder establishing the awareness to embrace and maintain the values of stuggles in life,” he added.

By theme “Cultivate the Spirit of Heroism during the Pandemic of Covid-19”, the agenda also comprised of a set of competitions for students and high school students in West Sumatera. The competitions included English Debate, Scrabble, Speech, Storytelling, and Reading poetry. All of the agenda was conducted with a strict health protocol. Another schedule from the competition sequence was a quiz with the theme “Quiz on National Hero” followed by 103 participants to win the prize of book collection with heroism and leadership topics.

The competition participants originated from various schools and higher education institutions, such as SMAN 3 Padang Panjang, SMK Cendana, MA-KMM Kauman, STES Manna Wassalwa, Diniyah Puteri. ITS PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta Released Two Hundred Students

Two hundred students of the Institute for Technology and Science (ITS) PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta were inaugurated on Thursday (28/10) in Harris Hotel Surakarta. The graduates originated from the Nutrition Science Bachelor program, Nursery Diploma-III program, and Midwifery Diploma-III program. A hundred and five graduates achieved cumlaude predicate.

The three best students from each study program received scholarships symbolically from LazisMu Muhammadiyah Regional Board of Surakarta. Afterwards, the two best students from Diploma-III programs were awarded scholarships from Muammalat and Jateng Banks.

The Head of Institute for Higher Education Service (LLDIKTI) Regional VI Central Java, Prof Dr Ir Muhammad Zainuri DEA attended the inauguration procession. Afterwards, Weni Hastuti, the Rector of ITS PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta congratulated to all graduates. “I believe that the academic achievement from the hard work, persistence, and perseverance. Don’t forget the moral support from family and relatives,” he said as reported on the official ITS PKU Muh Surakarta.

Afterwards, Teguh Wahyudi, Public Relation of ITS PKU Muh Surakarta explained that the inauguration was conducted with a strict health protocol. Two hundred graduates were required to wear masks and handscoon. Moreover, all graduates and invited guests also have been required to take antigen swabs and install Peduli Lindungi as the conditions to attend. Muhammadiyah Covid-19 Command Center (MCCC) also supported ITS PKU Muh Surakarta to tighten the health protocols.

Student Regiment Resimen Mahasiswa’ (Menwa) Mahasurya Wira Adiwidya of UM Lamongan achieved 3rd place in National Scientific Writing Competition (LKTI) themed “National Defence in Students Perspective” held by Student Regiment Unit of Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta, Sunday (14/11). The “Srikandi” team accomplished to reach the score of 171,80 under UIN Walisongo Semarang team and IST Akprind Yogyakarta team.

Silvia Adien Purwanta, as the team leader, explained the research also aimed to acknowledge the national defense spirit of the students in the rapid digital development era. Digital literacy was an approach focused on the critical analysis of content in social media. Therefore, the student spirit in establishing the national defense spirit by utilizing digital literacy can strictly dismiss and examine the digital media content. Therefore, the students could utilize the media based on their needs.

Silvia admitted her team met an obstacle because all writing processes were conducted online. However, their motivation elevated their optimism to winning. “We learn to build effective and intense communication in our own schedule. We looked for the ideas, arranged the writing structure, and prepared the presentation. We conducted virtual meetings and intensive discussion on the group chats for elaboration,” she added.

Innovation of Unismuh Makassar Students Processed Orange Peels

Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh Makassar) held the dissemination of their innovation, namely processing the orange peels to be candy with economic values. The training was conducted in the Hall of Padang Lampe Administrative Office. Many people from Padang Lampe Village, Ma’rang districts, Pangkep district attended the training last Monday (1/11).

The program was entitled “The Dissemination of Bakara Peppe Processing and Orange Peels Candy.” The purpose of the agenda is to empower village people to establish small and medium enterprises through innovation. Moreover, the products could be the new product from Padang Lampe.

Nurul Halimah Safar as the person in charge, explained the dissemination aimed to inspire and innovate to the communities. The inspiration from the knowledge given to support Padang Lampe communities economically, especially in the Covid-19 pandemics.

Syahruddin, as the Chief of Padang Lampe Village, appreciated the processing of orange peels dissemination. “We highly valued to the Community Service students. For the first time, a student group disseminates the local agricultural product in Padang Lampe village. The orange peels were usually wasted with no economic value, but they turned out to be products with monetary value.

Syafruddin expected that it could be continued after the dissemination, especially considering the agricultural commodity in the village, such as pamelo orange in Padang Lampe. “It can be an alternative or solution to support Padang Lampe village economically,” he said.

Muhammad Aswar, the thematic community service program coordinator from Unismuh Makassar Primary School Teacher Education Department, explained that Padang Lampe communities could continue the innovation to be a new business unit as an alternative to developing the small and medium enterprises.

Hundreds of Universitas Muhammadiyah Gorontalo (UMGO) first-year students listened to the motivation presented by the Secretary of Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (CHERD), Muhammad Sayuti, M.Pd, Ph.D, in David Bobihoe Indoor Building, Thursday (11/11).

The Rector of UMGO, Prof Dr Abd Kadim Masaong warmly welcomed the Secretary of Muhammadiyah CHERD for visiting Gorontalo for the first time. “Alhamdulillah, we can strengthen the relationship between UMGO academic civitas and the new students in following the Personality Development and Strengthening Character Program for 6 months,” he explained.

Muhammad Sayuti mentioned UMGO as one of 166 Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs). Hence, the advantage of learning in MHEIs is the students belong to a big family of Muhammadiyah in Indonesia. The student was encouraged to think from national and global perspectives, not only in Gorontalo. “Alhamdulillah, Muhammadiyah is the only organization that has established a campus abroad, and it is in Malaysia,” he said.

He also prompted UMGO students to not delay their success. The students should actively participate in Student Activity Units, Muhammadiyah Autonomous Organization including Muhammadiyah Student Association (IPM), Muhammadiyah College Student Association (IMM), Hizbul Wathan (Muhammadiyah Scout), Nasyiatul Aisyiyah (Female Youth Organization, and Pemuda Muhammadiyah (Male Youth Organization). “The requirements to success are to build networking, develop good communication competence, have a full dedication for the parents, and have a determination to move forward,” he said. The students should learn from various sources of knowledge and not only focus on one study program because the working world ahead requires various skills and competence. “Put your dreams on the sky because when you fall, you fall in the stars. But if you put your dreams on the coconut trees, when you fall, you will only have fractures,” Muhammad Sayuti concluded.

UM Pontianak Opens Digital Business Study Program

The Faculty of Economics and Business of Universitas Muhammadiyah Pontianak (UM Pontianak) officially opened a new study program, namely Digital Business Study Program. On Monday (8/11), the Directorate General of Higher Education and Directorate General of Vocational Education explained that the Digital Business Study Program of UM Pontianak passed the evaluation test. Previously, the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) was originated from the Faculty of Economics (FE) in 1990. The only study program that existed was Management. Afterwards, FE was developed to FEB in 2017 with the Rector Decree Number 058/II.3.AU/KEP/2017 dated April 25, 2017.

The Digital Business Study Program establishment was a long journey. At first, FEB UM Pontianak leader determined a study program with the great prospect of rapid digital development. Moreover, the study program that would be selected was Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Considering to meet the requirements of the market in the education world, then, the Digital Business study program was chosen.

The advantage of the Digital Business study program in Universitas Muhammadiyah Pontianak was to synergize two elements. Firstly, the development trend of the digital business. Secondly, the curriculum of a learning platform (andragogy), students’ learning journey, employability, and digital business ecosystem. The curriculum development was conducted based on benchmarking, National Qualification Framework, the uniqueness of study program, and dynamic transformation agenda followed the technology and business development. The study program opens enrollment to produce human resources to master start-up digital, marketplace, big data, and artificial intelligence.

On the inauguration procession held on Saturday (23/10), STIKes Muh Kuningan released seventy-two graduates from the Diploma-III of Pharmacy program. The graduates originated from several regions in West Jawa, even some of them came from outside of Java islands. Of 72 graduates, the three of them were named as the Best Graduates of the year, namely Nia Nitiariksa, A. Md., Farm with Cumlaude predicate, Hani Fitriyani, A.Md., Farm with Cumlaude predicate, and Elin Handayani, A. Md., Farm with Cumlaude predicate.

National Zakat Agency in Indonesia (Baznas RI), Muhammadiyah Institute for Zakat, Infaq, Sadaqah (LazisMu), Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (CHERD) through Ma’had Islam Rafiatul Akhyar (MIRA) donation of Ustadz Adi Hidayat (UAH) launched a scholarship program for Palestine citizens. The launching of the Palestine Scholarship Program was broadcast in Zoom Meeting and Youtube account of Baznas TV, Thursday (11/11).

In his remarks, Prof Dr Chairil Anwar, the Deputy Chair of Muhammadiyah CHERD appreciated the trust given for the institutions to contribute to the program implementation. “Our concern about our brothers and sisters in Palestine urgently required a scholarship program. The scholarship originated from several sources and will be distributed to the higher education institutions involved in seven Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (MHEI),” he said. The number of study programs offered for the first batch comprised of seven study programs in UM Yogyakarta, three study programs in Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD), one study program in Unisa Yogyakarta, four study programs in UM Surakarta, three study programs in UM Malang, three study programs in Unismuh Makassar, and one study programs in Uhamka. The total of study programs offered is twenty-two (22) study programs on Master program (Strata-2). “InsyaAllah, each study program will be directly taught by our doctoral and professor lecturers,” he added.

Moreover, Palestine Ambassador, H.E. Dr. Zuhair Al Shun, expressed his gratitude for the opportunities given by the parties involved in the program. “I hope through this program, we can elevate our good relations between Indonesia and Palestine. Palestine students have a significant interest in Exact Science, Technology, Engineering, and Health Science,” he said. He expected there would be various collaborations ahead between Palestine and Indonesia.

In his remarks, Muhammad Sabeth Abilawa, President Director of LazisMu also explained the program becomes a breakthrough given to the Palestine citizens. “One effort to establish peace is to improve the quality of human resources,” he said. Through this scholarship, two purposes ensued in long term were promoting Islam Rahmatan Lil ‘Alamin (the mercy for the whole universe) and strengthening zakat and civil society as NGOs.

Prof Dr KH Noor Achmad, MA, the Chairman of Baznas RI, explained Palestine’s problems become a long-drawn-out conflict. However, through support from all parties, Palestine will gain independence and glory shortly. “To gain it, undoubtedly, we should develop the human resources. This program aimed to provide better education access to Palestine communities,” he concluded. Prof Achmad also expressed his thankfulness to the Quantum Akhyar Institute led by Ustadz Adi Hidayat for the assistance given.

The Palestine Scholarship Program will be divided into two programs, a Master Program (2-years program) and a Short Course (1-month program). The list of universities that joined the program was divided into two batches. Firstly, UAD, UNISA, Unismuh Makassar, UM Malang, Uhamka, UM Surakarta, and UM Yogyakarta. The second batch includes UM Palembang, UM Tangerang, UM Sidenreng Rappang, Unisa Yogyakarta, and UM Jakarta. The scholarship scope facilitated for the Master Program is 20 students, while the short course program is for 25 students. As for the fund provided including the full-tuition fees, living allowance, bridging course, establishment allowance, air travel payment, health assurance cover, Indonesia visa payment, PCR, and quarantine procedures.

Unismuh Makassar collaborated with Guru Belajar Foundation campaigning ‘Ayo Jadi Guru’ (Let’s Be A Teacher) program for the youth. It aimed to persuade Indonesian youth to see teachers as noble profession as honorable as the other professions. The collaboration demonstrated as the visit of Guru Belajar Foundation to Unismuh Makassar was welcomed by Prof Ambo Asse directly as the Rector of Unismuh. The meeting was conducted in the Rector office, Iqra building on the 17th floor of Unismuh Makassar, Tuesday (9/11).

Guru Belajar Foundation leader, Mahayu Ismaniar, explained Guru Belajar Foundation initiates teacher development programs in the Independent Learning spirit. “We believe teachers with this independent learning spirit will be a transformation key in education for creating competent students and the collaborative educational ecosystem,” she added. In Cilandak office, South Jakarta, the foundation initiated teacher and teacher leader development programs, teacher mentoring, and educational contents publication. One of the programs includes an internship at the Independent Campus program, which is currently running.

The Rector of Unismuh Makassah appreciated the collaboration offer. Prof. Ambo explained that Unismuh was concerned with preparing teachers to be ready to teach in public schools, schools under Muhammadiyah institutions, and other private institutions. It was strengthened by the presentation of the Vice-Rector I Unismuh, Dr Abd Rakhim Nanda, that ‘Let’s Be A Teacher’ was very appropriate to block the view that teachers are not an important profession. “This year, fewer students have interested in Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP). One of the hoaxes about FKIP was the teachers are no longer needed. Consequently, we should collaborate with other parties to persuade the youth to be teachers,” Rakhim Nanda said.
